A real highlight looks to be the Beyond Broadcast conference on Saturday. This is one of the best examples of a conference using a wiki to organized itself from working groups to birds of a feather dinner parties. They are also using del.icio.us to share links and Flickr to share photos all simply be encouraging folks to use the unique tag ‘beyondbroadcast.” This same concept worked with the “mnpolitics” Voter Voices effort and I think it could work in the U.S. presidential election to create a number of more visable “content streams” of voter driven content. During the conference they’ll have an active IRC chat space and it looks like a place on Second Life. I wish more conferences used such interactive tools to their fullest … of course the audience for this conference is made up of folks who get and use these many tools almost everyday. Sitting here, in my book case filled study, dozens of books come to mind as sources of learning: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, by JRR Tolkien; and His Dark Materials trilogy, by Phillip Pullman; to name just a couple.

These tend to deal with the universal themes of love, trust, relationships, power, good vs. evil. One can go a long way enjoying the summer (or any season for that matter) and still doing a good deal of learning.

As I have a trio of books already under consideration for ALAWB, I think you have just expanded my search. Don\'t you ever find yourself thinking about how a book or film character would have dealt with a situation? What does it matter if it\'s not \'true\', it cannot speak to us, it cannot ring true unless it\'s come to us from a place of emotional truth. That\'s how the words make the connection.

Words teach us too (and tease, caress, inspire, make us laugh, weep, howl). They\'re all inside us somewhere. Strengths management and Managing with Aloha go together like bees and honey, for both celebrate the abundance within us, where we discover just how much we are capable of.

In the coaching I do, I have also found that teaching managers how to identify strengths in their staff opens their minds to more of the joy associated with management; they begin to see beyond the “hard work!” to the rewards they reap when they mentor emerging stars by way of building their strengths.

I did my StrengthsFinder Assessment awhile back (with the first release of Now, Discover Your Strengths) and I can’t wait to take the new assessment to see if my top 5 have changed or line up differently in light of my work on them since; they say your strengths remain your strengths always, but I do wonder how you can effect change.
