A lot of the leading thinkers in IA are moving on or at least growing beyond IA. Like Christina says, a lot of us are growing out of our favorite pair of jeans.

When folks like Christina are getting angry, I think it has to do with getting frustrated about the conversations that IA practitioners are having with each other and that they\'re the same types of conversations that were had 5 years ago.

It\'s not that people like Lou, Peter, and Christina want to drag the IA community into the new practices or business problems they\'re exploring but they do want the community to join the new conversations they\'re having.

The field of information architecture is far too self-referential right now. We\'re a little too exclusive when we need to be inclusive (tip of the hat to David Armano on that notion).

Not enough of us are getting uncomfortable and knocking down fences to reach out to other people from other fields and engaging in meaningful conversation about design and business problems. Information Architecture is something you do, not something you are

2. People who once identified themselves as Information Architects are now looking for more meaningful expressions to describe what they do - whether it’s interaction architect or experience designer

3. Information Architecture, generally, attracts people who are lateral thinkers that approach experience design challenges with a holistic view of the problem; these people are starting to move on and are looking to tackle problems bigger than designing experience and organizing information - for example, they’re becoming publishers or talking about product design

I think the original conversation, which Joshua really exacerbated with his recent post, is related to a different issue though. I think that issue has more to do with the conversation being stuck.

Go to an IA Summit and you\'ll know what I mean. I lot of the same things being talked about. I\'m hoping to talk about experience planning this coming March. I didn\'t think it was a game-changer though. That being said, I see lots of interesting applications for this technology. I suggested that Like.com could make their visual shopping platform modular. They could look at creating a blog plug-in that would allow bloggers on popular sites like Jossip and The Superficial to overlay the visual search tool on the dozens of images of celebs that they upload weekly. Readers of the site could interact with the images and zero-in on the products that they like with Like.com’s selector tool. Bloggers earn referral fees, similar to the Amazon Associates program. Everyone\'s happy!

Any other ideas on how they might extend this technology beyond their website?" );
