What I’m suggesting is that many companies expect advertising to solve problems that are impossible for advertising to solve. You kind of answered your own question there: it’s VERY hard to generate a “reality distortion field.”It seems obvious, but it’s surprising how often I hear companies complain that their ads aren’t working and they hop from agency to agency — when the problem is with their own product or service. What makes more sense from a business standpoint? Throwing money at the creation of distortion fields in order to trick the public into buying something inferior, or redirecting some of that money into actually improving the product?As a consumer, I’d much rather have a better product than a slicker ad. And as an advertising professional, I’d also prefer to sell a better product.– Robert" );
