You obviously were going through a depresive phase and have you stayed in the other life, you probaly you will be dead now. Praying is ok because it releases the chemicals in the brain who cause happiness. That why religious people are on the average happier than non religious people and live longer. But depression sometimes is a deeper problem, sometimes with a organic origin. One of my critic to many evangelical churches is the adversion to any form of psychological therapy, specially when drugs are involved. You might need professional help and the drugs. So keep praying, keep building you network of christians friends but<br>also seek first quality medical care. While I do deliver the message frequently at my own church, most of my preaching is at other churches, where most of the time the congregation doesn\'t know me. The goal of every sermon is to disturb the comfort level in each individual to the point where they want to dig deeper and come to understand that there\'s more to Christianity than &quot;church on Sunday morning&quot;. <br><br>Does that lead to discipleship-building? I don\'t know. I\'ll share this, however: Last year at a conference for 25 local churches in our denomination I was given pulpit time and I spoke about the need to identify and cultivate new leaders and speakers in each church so that more will be better equipped to share the Good News. A year later 20 people from those 25 churches have entered into the lay speaking ministry. Each of those are undergoing studies to further their discipleship, and in turn, spread the Good News to others by virtue of their training. I find it difficult to say that the pulpit fails in building disciples.<br><br>In balance, I would say that the pulpit alone can\'t build the church, but it should be a source of inspiration for those hearing the Word to strive to cultivate their discipleship. From that, discipleship studies and prayer meetings should develop to carry the disciples throughout their walk wherever they go.<br><br>In retrospect, I\'m challenged by this post to better craft my sermons so that they do make a difference in the lives of those I\'m called to speak to.
