Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment. Happy to have provided a few nostalgic memories of Cayman for you :-)

Facebook is not for everyone, but it's a good way of staying in touch with local happenings in your area and for contact with friends.

As a networking tool, it's too early for me to judge.

Thanks again for visiting and letting me know where you found the site....at least some of my paid advertising is worth it ;-)</content>

        <content>Hi Stephen,

I've really enjoyed watching your blog develop and this latest is really pleasing to see.

I've always thought that your technical knowledge and ability could be put to great use online. As you say, it may not be residual income but if you're doing what you love and getting paid for it, kudos to you and I wish you every success as you move forward with it. As far as I'm concerned you are truly deserving of that success and a great blogger!

To have scored a comment from Mr Rowse must have made you smile too :-)

I've had some strange successes and failures when trying to make money online, but I'm sure you'll be back to read about those as time goes by.

Anyway - once again, here's to your successful pursuit of online money!!

I agree Josh, I'm hoping to see a few old friends sign up so that we can keep in touch with a little more regularity. I know people do use it for marketing purposes too, and with such a huge user base I guess it won't hurt to have a few links on there too :-)

        <content>Hi Josh,

Yep, it's a very comprehensive bit of kit. I have used it in the past to help some people improve their sites from an SEO perspective and they were pretty pleased with the results, which just goes to prove than even an SEO dweeb like me can use it and see positive results.

The pro version produces great reports too, and made me feel a bit of a fraud LOL!

Nowadays with blogs and CMS platforms and their content being indexed very quickly without even tiresome submission duties, it might be irrelevant to a lot of bloggers, but it still has a place for tweaking static sites. I've subscribed to the autoresponder too, just to see what more I can learn :-)</content>

        <content>Stephen,

If you get back to this you'll see that I have integrated CoComment onto these pages now.

It's maybe not the best solution but I still can't get the "subscribe to comments" feature to function and I'm tearing my hair - what's left of it - out over the cursed thing.

Hopefully, the option to subscribe to follow up comments via RSS and CoComment is at least an improvement over nothing at all. I've tested it and it seems to be functioning OK but if anyone encounters any problems please let me know.

If you are not familiar with CoComment, just click on the blue link below to visit their site and find out how you can track your online conversations.</content>

<content>I removed the widget a couple of weeks ago in the midst of all the "shocking" changes stuff that was being announced. I just got fed up of waiting and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't like the widget in any "flavor". It just looked untidy and was bringing very little quality traffic in any case. Most visitors stayed less than 30 seconds.

Strangely enough I haven't been kicked out of the program, but I don't think it will be making a return. I was very surprised to see some of the blogs deemed unfit to participate, and it made me wonder who the reviewers are and just how much they know about blogging or how to evaluate them.</content>

<content>I've tried all the programs you mention, but eventually settled on Post2Blog which I prefer over all the others.

Sometimes these editors can be very fussy with lesser known platforms like NucleusCMS but it's very simple to set them up with the major players.

I first started using Post2Blog as it made adding tags to my Wordpress blogs so simple. With the advent of WP2.3 that's maybe not such an issue anymore and although there are plugins for tagging, it was still simpler to use the Post2Blog editor.</content>

I've been giving it some thought, however, nothing has yet occurred to me worth posting!

My last contest was a flop too - I asked people to give me a little feedback on their hosting companies and got only one entry :-(

Anyway, if I can think of anything remotely useful/workable, I'll send you my thoughts :-)</content>

<content>Like Snoskred I like the "subscribe to comments" option although I have been relying more on CoComment in an attempt to keep track of conversations I get involved in.

What I do find puzzling is that the option to subscribe to a comment thread on my blog is habitually completed by people with a fake email address. The subscribe option is double opt-in for prevention of abuse, but I frequently see undeliverable messages where folk have filled out the box with a phony email!

I've never relegated you to my spam bin Josh :-) in fact you seem to be one of the few who manages to send successful trackbacks.</content>

        <content>Hi Jayne,

I've used Kontera on a couple of sites for the past few months and only recently decided to remove it. I conducted a little poll and got the impression that more readers disliked it than not, although it was a close run thing. Revenue was not that high, but it's still a few bucks every month that I want to replace :-)

I think perhaps that a lot depends on your target audience with Kontera and if you have a web/blog savvy group of readers they are put off by the pop ups on mouse over. I think your experience on your Naked Celeb blog bears that out somewhat, in that the audience for that kind of blog are more likely to click on things perhaps purely out of curiosity a lot of the time. I'm glad to hear they're doing well for you, because I like Kontera myself.

I am experimenting with some interesting alternatives at the moment which I will report back on in due course, once I've got some meaningful figures.</content>

<content>Well, I'm glad I read this post because it made me look at what was wrong and find a fix for it.

I'm feeling pretty proud of myself because I didn't even ask for help. I found my way into a couple of Nucleus plugin codes and managed to work out how to include a nofollow for any links provided by syndicated RSS feeds, such as my Stumbleupon blog. Now my leaking pagerank problems should be a thing of the past :-)

Thanks Josh, you learn something new every day, all I need now is a pagerank to protect LOL!</content>

Because I'm using an RSS feed, via a plugin for most of the sidebar links I'm not sure how, or even if, I can nofollow them.

<content>I don't have a blogroll - not because I'm clever and thought about this already, I just don't think blogrolls are particularly valuable. I display social blogging widgets in my sidebar, this gives exposure to my visitors and their posts.

I also syndicate my Stumbles RSS feed in the sidebar, and, also using RSS, the recent post from a Bumpzee community that I feel is relevant to my blog and changes with my mood. Additionally there is a feed excerpt from 5Star affiliate forums and blogs.

Presumably this means I am leaking rank like a sieve! Should I reconsider my generosity with my sidebar link love I wonder?</content>

        <content>Hi Josh

This is a nice review of a product I considered buying a while back. In the end I settled on Article Submitter instead, largely because it was a lot cheaper. I've been pretty satisfied with it although I must admit to having got very lazy with articles and not published any in the past few months.

Article Submitter retails at $47 and might be a good alternative for folks who can't stretch to the price of this one. It still allows you to submit to select directories, as many or as few as you like.

The best thing about it is, there is a free trial download so you can test drive it before laying out any money. -

Your review has reminded me that I should be doing more because I've gotten pretty lax with my article writing lately and know I should be doing more.</content>

<content>I can't use Spam Karma but, on my NucleusCMS blog, I use a plugin called PHYFS (I won't repeat what it stands for as this is a family friendly place) and this does a good job of weeding out the type of spam Cindy mentions - anything with more than 3 links is toast :-)

That number is set by the blog admin, so you can allow as many URLs as you feel is reasonable. It also destroys posts that are made from the same IP within a certain time frame - if a bot is doing multiple posts all within seconds of each other they get zapped as they arrive. The plugin also allows users to set up a nice sarcastic message which is displayed to wannabe spammers who break the user defined parameters.

In addition to manual moderation and a captcha this keeps me pretty free of most spam, including the human posted junk.</content>

I've no doubt of the veracity of your predictions Josh :-) Someone made me laugh on a post somewhere saying that the name BlogRush somehow translated in her mind to "BogBrush" (tr. toilet brush) and it remains to be seen if it (BR) will ever be as effective at doing what it was designed to do as that little implement!

Your comments about marketers are spot on, successful at what they do for sure, but somehow trying to emulate some of what they do makes you feel a little 'unclean' for want of a better word.

However, on face value, it's going to stay in my sidebar even though traffic through the widget has been slow, it has sent some visitors and if it keeps doing that, I'll give it a fair chance at proving its worth.

I'm with you on the hypey (is that a word?) language, it's not needed, but it's a marketing sickness we'll never cure! I think the green widget looks good where you've placed it btw.</content>

<content>OK Vlad, I'm all done and thanks for the tag :-) For what it's worth I think your blog is very well written and always keeps me coming back, and I love the design too, so I usually pop out of bloglines to read your posts!</content>

Sorry, I was really slow to pick up on this meme, but, I promise to deliver my thoughts in the next day or so. I've never participated in one of these before either, but I will be giving this one some hard thought.

It could take a while simply because there is so much I consider wrong with my blogging ability :0)</content>

        <content>Hi Jayne

Thanks for joining me at CoComment and for the link :-)

CoComment seems to have several benefits, not least of which is an increase in links to your blog as people track comments. It's still a little buggy at the moment but once you get the hang of it it does become very useful.

Every now and again I find it misses comments and it's not until I visit the blog that I see them, but, all things considered it means not having to subscribe to comment follow ups via email all the time and helps out on blogs that don't offer that option.</content>

<content>The potential for increased spam mentioned by 'sexy' is not supported by any hard figures yet, although without doubt some people will target DoFollow bloggers for the potential link juice.

There have been several discussions about the problems both real and perceived. Having implemented DoFollow, bloggers should make sure that they keep an eye on the possible human comment spam, use decent spam filters and moderate. Lucia's Linky Love plugin was designed to deter ride by comment spammers as it enables blog owners to enable DoFollow only after a commentator has made a predetermined number of comments.

I didn't notice any particular changes in silly comments after going DoFollow, they seemed to go neither up or down. There is a good thread about what a lot of DoFollow bloggers feel is or isn't acceptable over at Lucia's Big Bucks Blogger. Here's the link for your readers' information whichI'm sure some will find informative.
