Pretty much, Erin.

Whether its kids or pets, waste output is a common topic of conversation. It's not just poop though. Liquid waste is also a fun discussion. Ava indirectly peed on me twice yesterday.

Do you know if one needs to reapply sunscreen after getting doused by urine?

Hey Greg, thanks for stopping by. For us it wasn't the problem of persisting poopy pants. Ava was holding it in for days!

She's gotten better in that she is going almost daily now. We just need to get her eating something other than dairy products.

The laxatives are helping but in a couple of weeks here we'll see if her doctor wants to go the enema route.

All in all its a pretty crappy situation.

Our son had the same problem. It's called 'encopresis'. Basically what you said, chronic constipation. The kid starts holding in poop for some reason, gets backed up, the bowels stretch out, and they also get numb down there so they can't feel when it's time to poop (so they poop in their pants all day long without even knowing it). It can be hard to figure out, many doctors will tell you the kid just isn't potty-trained yet.

We finally got a specialist involved who had us give him a couple enemas to clean him right out. I couldn't believe what came out of the kid with those two enemas, he must have eaten an elephant at some point.

After the 'big cleanout' you start with a mild laxative daily, and get the kid to sit on the toilet for five minutes, roughly 20 minutes after each meal. It takes 6 months to a year to get it all fixed and back to normal.

Always talk to a pediatrician before you give a kid an enema though.
