I found the cache. It looks as though I was the first one there...one of the boxes actually hissed with a pressure change as I opened it.

Nevertheless, I return dejected and empty handed -- Ryan, it is great that you included 2 XXLs and a bazillion Smalls, but where were the plain old XLs? I am not into muscle shirts so I left the Larges...and I already own a tent so I left the XXLs. To say that I was bummed is to understate it a bit.

At least it was a nice hike.

4 tips for future explorers:

1. Don't get scared off by the two gauntlets of poison oak at the beginning of the hike. Except for those and a small patch just before the cache, there really isn't all that much.

2. 15 yards after you cross what is left of the creek you will come to an unmarked fork -- to the right, a trail heads up the hill and in front of you, a trail follows the creek toward a picnic bench. Head right, don't go to the picnic bench.

3. Pay attention to the first set of GPS coords (the ones marking the path off the main trail toward the cache). I walked right past that trail at first.

4. Look at the stickers in both boxes...they are different.

Good luckto all the explorers.

Oh and Ryan: (i) don't get me wrong it was great fun and I very much appreciate all of the effort and creativity that went into this; and (ii) if I want an XL (in any color) who do I bribe?

;-)

I got it working...but I do NOT like my solution...I set album size="original". It works but it is really slow -- my "original" photo sizes ~2.5MB and it appears that the whole photo is downloaded to the browser and then resized there. Not pretty.

Paul:

Happy Holidays. I hope your travels are safe...and come graduation (and your pilgrimage to the Silicon Valley), remember that the earlier offer of food and libation still stands...and Bryan V. can bring you over to the house...he's been here.

As for the contest, donate my winnings to the next worthy contestant -- I have (mt) already.

But to answer your questions (because they are good ones):

A. Favorite Post: For me, clearly it is your October 24 post on Macbooks and Google CSE. Yes, the post was useful, but the key for me was Corey's response to my comment of lamentation...that exchange in comments got me a brand-spanking-new MBP C2D instead of the recently obsolete MBP CD.

B. Favorite Non-Stammy Tech Blog: David Pogue | feed

C. My 'puter: Aforementioned MBP C2D

D. Holiday Wish: Either world peace or the <a href="http://store.foodnetwork.com/shop/product.asp?product_code=4562&department_code=2&category_code=25&subcategory_code=25&search_type=subcategory">Alton Brown "Good Eats" 27 Disk DVD set, whichever fits under the tree....

To you, your family and all your readers...Happy Holidays.

While speed is the #1 benefit of OpenDNS...I have to say that PhishTank is a very close #2.

What surprises me, however, is the failure of Europe (East and West), Russia and the African continent to make a meaningful contribution to these statistics. I am sure that there are many smart scam artists in all of these areas...in fact, I am still receiving offers from supposedly wealthy families in the Ivory Coast to "help" them move millions of dollars of money.

Some questions for the PhishTank folks (or you, Paul):

Is the lack of representation in these areas due to more effective policing efforts? Or, is PhishTank not as effective at identifying sites from these areas? Or, are the country sizes so small that contributions from these countries are less noticed on a country-by-country list (not that South Korea is all that big)?
