Hey Derek - Don't mind the 'delay'. I know it can take time to track & respond from time to time and I'm already happy that you've taken the time to do this. I've emailed Technorati 2 or 3 times in the past without ever getting an answer so this is good :)

It's also great to see improvements are under way and that they are in line with some of the suggestions made. I agree with you that you should be proud with what you've done so far and that you should keep pushing to make it better all the time as well.

So thanks for the reply and I'm looking forward to see the upcoming initiatives.

Thanks Valeria. I don't think they'll ever charge for the service, although I do think they have an opportunity to build out the free service and to build a premium (paying) service on top of that. But I don't expect any innovation whatsoever soon really.

@Tijs: No guarantee to success indeed, the cheese campaign didn't have any mystery to it though. I experienced it as just another (bad) ad with the only difference that it included some bloggers in the campaign.

@Bart: You asked a very good question. Although it's not only about the bloggers, but also about their readers and maybe even traditional media who might have picked up the news from the blogs. It would be nice if Stefan did a follow up after indeed.

About the power of the closed network, I'm not sure if I agree. Yes it's very important to make campaigns like the ones mentioned to be successful, but my question was more related to the ethics. Imagine the buzz would have been like it was now, but it was not for HETPALEIS but for the new coke, nokia, ... All I'm saying is that we would have been mad about the tactics they used, which we weren't now.

Hi Stefan - I agree that relationships are important and they will allow you and me to position things different compared to an outsider. As such I think the Paola246 case is very interesting and proves that point, but it made me question as well whether we aren't measuring by double standards. I hope this might be the start for a good discussion about that.

As for MarketingProfs, I'm not writing for that, but I'm in their bookclub which you should check out if you haven't done so already. Every couple of months CK picks a marketing book that will get discussed at MarketingProfs forum, and these are very engaging.

Looking forward to meet you in person.

We do have some guidelines, meaning that there's a sharepoint with tips & tricks, there's an internal alias, ... which I definitely think makes sense for any company. Let people know about the WOMMA code or anthing that relates to that, tell them not to delete blog posts, ...

I guess the key point I wanted to make was that not having a blogging policy is not what we should be so concerned about, it works fine for us without. Not monitoring the brand, not knowing and/or wanting to be part of the conversation, ... is a much bigger concern if you ask me.

Ok, so part of it might be in semantics. Still when I read what Pietr had to say about it (who works for Leads United), policy was the word used. I do think we're on the same page though. Semantics are important though as a guideline is not something you 'police' ;)

As for Microsoft, we do have a sharepoint with tips & tricks, we do have an easy system to set up blogs on the microsoft domain, we do have an internal alias for all bloggers in the company, etc... which are all free to use if you want but will help you if you're looking for something.

Well Robin, here we disagree. A blogging policy is not a must and I think at Microsoft I can witness very well how this can work without having a policy in place. I do think a guideline or some related information on a sharepoint/intranet does make sense, but let's not mistake that with a policy.

Talking about common sense, again nothing to do with a policy, this is where you shouldn't do anything on your blog that you wouldn't do in any other type of conversation (related to your company) either. You don't disclose company secrets, you don't talk bad about colleagues, ... nothing unusual.

Absolutely right, and also part of the challenge we face trying to market Live Search ;)

You should definitely take a look at cocomments though, it's really good, especially with the FF integration... I just wished we had that stuff for IE as well.
