Hi Richard! How strange and wonderful that you remember Holiday House after all these years :-)

I remember it being played on Radio Scotland, and of course imagined that this meant certain stardom for The Catburgers.

I don't seem to have a copy of it. We recorded it in London in 1987 at a session that should have been paid for by Dan Treacy of the Television Personalities. As it turned out, Dan never showed up, but Jowe Head looked after us and helped out in the studio.

By the time we finally got hold of the reel to reel from the session, it was in a hopeless mess (rescued off the floor of Dan's flat) so the best we might have is a good cassette. I'll ask around the other band members and see what we can come up with. I do have a rough demo done in 1986, but I'd like to explore all other options before unleashing it upon the world!

I have about a dozen other Catburgers tracks, which I'll happily send you if you want.

Congratulations on an excellent and much-needed plugin!

I'm having trouble with delegated OpenID.

I'm http://robertjones.myopenid.com and have delegated http://www.jonesieboy.co.uk/blog to refer to that openid

When I try to post a comment using the original myopenid url, all is well, but when I use my blog url, my blog (and yours) chuck back a "need name and email" error, despite the fact that the <a href="http://www.openidenabled.com/resources/openid-test/checkup/">openid checker</a> reports that my blog is a functioning openid.

Any ideas?

Can't disagree with you... I see Ubuntu and Suse pulling away from the pack though, which should be a good thing as far as simplifying things for the average punter is concerned.

The sad thing is that people just don't realise that there is a free alternative to Windows AND all the software that you have to pay for on top of it - an alternative that will do everything that 90% of computer users want to do.

It feels sometimes as thought Windows and proprietary software are a tax on those lacking the inquisitiveness and technical ability to discover and use Linux.

Hi Jeremy. I haven't revisited Pipes since my first post, to be honest. But just now I had another play, and came up with <a href="http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/hCS8nfO92xGLJ_SLfOgC8A">this pipe</a>. It runs a search on the contents of all the rss feeds coming out of all the blogs in <a href="http://www.scotedublogs.org.uk">scotedublogs.org.uk</a>.

Does that seem useful at all David? I'm not sure myself!

Hi Dan. Now I get to it, I see that you are already planning to do what I was going to suggest - getting them to plan a lesson.

Is the audience too disparate to create groups of teachers from the same subjects? It would be great if they could bring along a real topic they are about to teach and then work on how the whiteboards could enhance the teaching and learning for that topic. The key, if we agree with what the DFES study says, is to keep the focus on learning and teaching methodology rather than on technology. Low level use of whiteboards might sound like "how could we use that drag and drop thing here" whereas high level use would sound more like "we should incorporate an opportunity for peer assessment here - could the whiteboard help with that?"

You weren't on there!?! That's a disgrace which I have fixed :) It'll be half an hour or so before the system gets around to updating from your rss feed.

Any feedback you can give as a user of the system will be very helpful. Also we need to publicise this as widely as possible once it has the remaining bits of functionality in place, so if you could help with that when the time came it would be great :)

Thanks Tess - i agree completely that a pile of links to long posts is not helpful. I really think, though, that the articles I pointed to earlier do a great job of explaining feeds. Nonetheless, I'll try to write something this weekend. Are you sure you don't want to do it yourself though? It sounds as though you have lots of good ideas about how it should look :)

Well ooookay. If you all insist! I must disagree with you though, Tess, when you say that links mean nothing to readers. How could anyone have made it to my blog without understanding how to click on a link?

I'm not quite sure what you are all looking for. If you want to know how to <i>use</i> feeds, I feel like I said it all in the previous post - blogs produce lists of recent posts (and comments) in a format that can be interpreted by software. These lists are called feeds. You can <i>subscribe</i> to these lists with software called feed readers, or aggregators, so that you see any new posts from one page instead of having to trawl around all the blogs you like. That's it basically :)

I'm not trying to avoid writing the post - I would just like a bit of advice before I start.

If you want to know the technical details of feeds - RSS, ATOM etc and how they actually work - we'd need to start with HTML, then XML, then talk about Web servers, then get a basic understanding of how a Web application works. Then we would maybe be ready to look in detail at how an RSS feed gets produced by a blog and interpreted by a feed reader. I can certainly explain all this stuff, but I'm not sure you average blogger, let alone "beginning blogger", would be interested!

I'm glad you have found this useful Jim. I'm hosting this myself, and am using Wordpress with a modified version of the 3K2 theme. Security concerns prevent me going into any more details about the hosting in public, but if you email me - jonesieboy at gm@1l.c0m - I'll tell all!
