This is where feminists should lend a helping hand, but not do the heavy lifting.

You got it right on that one. MRA's tend to argue, day in an day out, that feminists are responsible somehow in an increase in woman-on-male domestic violence, and that somehow it's a zero-sum game in which every time an organization for abused women does anything, it takes away from abused men. All of TV is male-oriented, so when a woman-focused cable channel is created, they scream "misandry!" and create Spike TV, because women had the nerve to lift themselves up without asking them how to do it first. And they try to carry that shit onto victim shelters, and demand that women do all the work of helping abused men, when they're not all that willing to do it themselves. Point in case, who helps gay men more? Feminists. By a long, long shot.

It'd help if MRA's didn't constantly accuse feminists of claiming women don't do anything bad, exaggerate false rape claims, conflate recanting of a claim and failing to win in court as the same as a proof of deception, And allowing things like this done in their name.

They are getting worse and worse, taking cues after Axe.

The worst part: a woman approached me at the grocery store promoting the Axe body scrub thingie. Squick.

At least one men's deodorant is taking a different stance. Nivea for Men has a commercial where they parody a bunch of Axe users, men in their late teens or early twenties, dressed in jeans or torn up slacks, dirty shirts, saying carp like "But this smell won't attract a mate for me!" and so on, then a guy in a suit (sort of) just says "It smells good and it's good for my skin. What more do I want?" Voiceover: "Nivea: for grown ups."

Another thing: you can't list hot/attractive separately from smart one second, then pretend that to you hot subsumes intelligence the next second. Don't you get it? Phil and the lot of you DO separate intelligence from allure all the time. That's why every time Phil can only turn into paris hilton going "you're hot, that's hot, what you did was so hot, nyah nah nah" when he's chatting online and doing videos, he is conveying sexism whether or not he intended it. And considering how rarely he brings up gender inequality in science, he's not exactly a champion in spite of that crap, either.

It'd be easier to take your alleged feminist-friendly views seriously, Phil, if you didn't automatically invoke the "But I think you're f**kable!" crap at every turn.

But it’s well-known that my readers are smarter, funnier, and more attractive than the average person. So what do you say?

Oh yeah. You say you want more women in science, and that you want women treated better, but all you can do is continue to force them into the trap that being sexy is a measure of self-worth. Every time you refer to arealgirl or rebeccawatson as hot or something on Twitter, you reveal yourself as the male-privileged asshat you are.

Wanna help women get more interested in science? Stop treating your female colleagues on the internet as other chauvinist white-collar guys treat their secretaries.

And no, this is not somebody trolling as the Aerik you've spoken to before. This is the original.

Nevermind, I got between the ledges by teetering on the ledge and using bombs. Still hard as shit. Awesome hack.

Thanks for a link to the full map, btw, I needed it to find the last 3 chozo/torizo statues and Ridley.

Tourian is hard as fuck. Full-sized metroids that you can't shake if they get on you, confusing methods needed to get through automated doors. Ick.

The room that had motherbrain in it didn't change too much from the original, though.

The escape was awesomely tough, as well.

Super Metroid Redesign DOES work, with ZSNES 1.51, with rom Super Metroid (JU) [!].smc , from a torrent pack "best of snes" from thepiratebay.org, unheadered version of patch, used Lunar IPS from romhacking.net.

But I think I've encountered a glitch. There's a chozo statue you have to really annoying shit to get. First you find two holes in the floor and find triggers to get using bomb, then you hook back around and find 2 more triggers to shoot, before you can get to the area the statue is in.

The part where you have to get through a sand pit after going through a tunnel in a wall has me trapped. There's 2 ledges overlooking a small sandfall, and quicksand beneath. Once you get below the ledge level, the rom behaves as if the ledges were connected, and I can't get over this shit.

I thought you may have gone somewhere with this until you heaped in the discrimination against midwives with discrimination against "alternative" (see: useless pseudoscience) medicine spheres, 'holistic' and 'herbal'.

Like it or not, medicine is evidence-based. A history of midwivery doesn't prove it's efficacy any more than a history of, say, bloodletting and things like that. It's because of modern medicine that babies survive birth much, much, much more often than they did when midwives were the only help a childbirthing had. That argument is totally fallacious.

A questoin arises: if midwives have so little medical training that you have to separate midwives and doctors as mutually exclusive by definition, how do they actually know what they're doing? Conventions and understanding are two different things. Perhaps that is why the AMA is against it -- medical endeavors (and childbirth is just that) need medical training.

What frightens me is that, should the AMA successfully assist states in developing legislation that would force all women to give birth in a hospital because of safety, mother and child will effectively become property of the hospital.

NO! That is not how things work. You also have to perform brain surgery in a hospital/clinic. Or any surgery, for that matter, except in cases of extreme emergency where no hospital is within reach to save person's life. The way you put it, all recipients of surgery have become hospital property. But it's just not so. You can't put an arbitrary line in the sand where those people are treated properly, but you're being discriminated against in the case of a single procedure that does not stand out from these other procedures on any merit.

Damn right it's criminally negligent to deny a baby necessary medical care. A doctor loses his/her license if a bare minimum is not performed. What makes anybody else any different? Here I was under the impression that once a baby is born it is endowed with certain unalienable rights, such as the right not to be neglected into injury, but apparently I'm wrong because... because what? Because midwifery feels good? Sorry, but "spiritual experience" is no justification for medical negligence.

I feel sorry for her if she thinks that feminism is only for middle upper class white women. She's completely wrong. And to say she prefers not to be feminist to focus on her race instead, well that's bass ackwards, too.

See My System Of Oppression Has a Bigger Cock Than Your System of Oppresion.

This reminds of that story about those blind wise guys who start fondling an elephant and then start argueing afterwards about what the elephant is like.

“it is like a bat’s wing!” declares the wise guy who’d been fiddling with the elephant’s ear.

“No, it is like a tree trunk - stout and cylindrical.” argues the wise guy who’d been fiddling with the elephant’s leg.

“You are both wrong, it is long and supple like a snake!” cries the third wise guy, who had been feeling up the elephant’s trunk, or something.

So too goes the endless discussion on which system of oppression is bigger, badder and needsto be tackled more urgently.

So this black guy, this poor guy and a middle class white woman see that rich white guys are always at the very top of all the systems of oppression.

So the black guy goes “You see, it is rich white guys who are the oppressors, and so racism is the ultimate system of oppression, we must deal with racism first and foremost.”

“No no, it is the rich white guys who are the oppressors, and so capitalism is the ultimate system of oppression, we must deal with capitalism first and foremost.” argues the poor guy.

“No no NO, you’ve got it all wrong, it is rich white guys who are the oppressors, and so the patriarchy is the ultimate form of oppression, we must deal with patriarchy first and foremost!” Cries the middles class white woman.

The black guys and the poor guy then look at each other and say together “shut up you stupid bitch.”

...

The idea that often goes with that is this notion that you cannot attack multiple systems of oppression all at once, when in many instances, doing anything less than attacking all the systems of oppression that are causing trouble will leave you unable to actually deal with the problem at hand at all.

People need to get it into their heads - fighting one system of oppression does weaken another, butonly insofar as you don't do it by trying to step on another yourself. Denying feminism because you think it steals your class thunder or race thunder is not the way to go. They're all comparable, and they all help each other.

PZ, you are only right in a math class way. And you have an image of religious people that smears their logic errors together with a suggestion of inescapable selfishness. Do you know how many consider prayer to be petitioning of a deity to grant wishes [which I agree wholeheartedly with you is dangerous and absurd] and how many consider it only a way to recognize how little is in their control...and still feel ok?

Be more thorough in your characterizations or you will get not only the feckless animosity of nitwits as you expect and enjoy, but of people who are just trying to locate themselves in the universe using far weaker tools than you possess.

Except, if they felt OK with it after the first time, they don't need to do it over and over and over and over again, do they? Nor would they want to force others to do it by usurping the Constitution and slipping it into school board policies, etc. etc etc. You haven't refuted Myers's point at all. If they feel it's so metaphorical, why do they keep doing all this real bullshit to support it?

It is frustrating when people just can't let it go.

Earlier this year at Fark, a user submitted what was obviously a blurry picture of a street lamp, but claimed she couldn't tell what it was and loudly denied it was not a street lamp. Forum and photoshop hilarity ensued. After a day they got her to repost new pictures of the "UFO," and more photoshoppers put the pics together in animated .gif's altering the brightness and contrast of the photos to animate the street lamp transforming from a sharp, crisp image to the blurry thing she insists is a UFO. After a few more days she finally relented and accepted that it was just a street lamp the entire time.

But until she did, BLARG! Frustrating to talk to.
