<content>I think it's easy to forget that the majority of people creating Drupal themes are not what we'd call themers. They are not professional coders. They're creating a site for their business, their boss, their neighbour's sister's business, or the organization they volunteer for. They are lucky to know some CSS and work their way around PHP files, and will grasp onto any snippet or tutorial they can find that simply works.

I think adding consistency to page.tpl is a worthwhile step to increase the number of early successes for those learning theming.</content>

<content>This doesn't make sense to me. In fact, one of the touted features of D6 was to be able to create CSS-only themes. While I understand where you're coming from, I don't think it sends the right message. Perfectly wonderful themes can be made with just CSS and an info file, and presence of a template file does not a good themer make :)

<content>If the current inline styles are the ones that seem to work in Garland and some other themes, those should probably be set as the default styles for the new class as well, which can be overridden now in the theme if in a case such as yours, they need to be.

So do these blocks have titles off by default?</content>

<content>Ubercart is in a bit of a unique position, needing to cater to both Drupal developer pros and very new users to e-commerce and Drupal. I think Views/CCK is a no-brainer for developers. I also think it's a no-brainer for new users, to get them using these modules that are the backbone of nearly any advanced functionality in Drupal. However, that's from the expert perspective ;)

One thing I wanted to add is that moving towards the UberDrupal install profile will really help to soften the blow. It won't be a list of "oh and you need to get these ten other modules" if the installation profile really becomes what it could be.</content>

Also, when learning to theme things like the catalog pages, at least there's already a lot of help out there for theming views, plus you can change a lot through the UI. Universally, whenever I see someone *experienced* with Drupal trying out Ubercart for the first time, there's this "you're serious? this isn't based on views?!?!" shock :P</content>

<content>Hunh, I saw that module but the "This module doesn't have a UI" part made me assume it probably wasn't widely used :)

I guess for your needs, it was needing to programmatically check for the argument that led to needing this solution?

I think there are basically two paradigms to related content -- it's either specific to that exact product (which is usually more appropriate for the CCK solution, since it's just putting fields from the node that you enter as usual into tabs), or generic across many products (better for the QuickTabs-style approach).

You can also get to the former using the latter by using arguments. For example, display a one-item view in a tab that takes in the product or some other field as the argument and uses that to pull up the relevant size chart or category-specific documentation or something. Or you could plunk in the views from uc_views. QuickTabs is also a very popular and well-supported module.

I'm asking this for the purposes of theming (of course :)) -- if we were to include tab styling in a theme, what approach should it be for, what solution gives the most flexibility?</content>

<content>Yes, there's some intentional built-in-ness here of those links from both us and Acquia, but that being said, it was always our intention to come back and add an easier way to remove or adjust the links. The bigger hold-up was that all our themes (free and those on topnotchthemes.com) have the same template.php and theme settings files, for ease of maintenance. However, going into the 2.x releases of the Acquia themes will be a new separation of general and theme-specific settings, which will allow us to keep the consistent settings easily up to date but add/remove settings on a per-theme basis.

<content>Thanks Ryan! Yeah I've seen the cookie site before, *really* nice.

Brian, we'll be hitting on all the standard Drupal module fare as well, so I think it will be popular for non-ecommerce sites too.

We've looked at grid stuff and my partner Chris, the more technical of us, has been tinkering in his spare time with an experimental version of our base theme using a grid-based, faux absolute position layout. If it turns out to be an option that makes sense for our themes across the board, then we'll probably make the switch. So... it's a possibility, but not soon :)</content>

<content>The right sidebar is inset into the content, so that text wraps beside and below. This is not a bug and is not going to change as the standard in the theme. The idea was to break out of some of the common cliches of full column Drupal themes, and offer a sidebar block style best suited for a blog/news site, or something with mainly text content.

With things like tables, forums, etc if you're trying to use the three column layout, you're going to have problems. I would recommend that you add some custom CSS for your particular content (ie. to restrict the ID of a forum table or view to a certain width), or if you want to make the sidebar permanently take up that entire width and *not* have text wrap below at all, just override the main column width for the .layout-first-main-last definition in the CSS. Since this latter one is a not-uncommon request, we should probably add it as some commented out CSS in the local.css file so it's easy to find.

But yes, as you've noticed, we're moving towards Panels 3 support with the theme, which gives even more options for creating whatever layouts you want :)

<content>It depends on how "adult" you're talking about. Physical goods? Downloable media? Subscriptions? What level of nudity/explicitness, and how is it going to be marketed?

If not, CCBill and Verotel are the leading reputable adult payment processors. There aren't Ubercart payment plugins for them but the cost of writing or having one of those written would probably be worth it compared to the risk of 2CheckOut shutting you down and holding your funds. Plus it's come up a lot on here and I bet others might go in on a bounty.</content>

My only complaint would be that the medium grey (non-hovered) primary links are a bit low contrast compared to the pink background. Changing them to something like #ddd would make it much more legible.

<content>If we had a real name for our base theme, that could work, but we just call it "base" internally :P

I get the distinction, but "support" rubs me the wrong way because the appropriate place for true support requests is the issue queue or via our email support. Really more of a "user group" is what this was going for, discussion, brainstorming, ideas, resources, planning, philosophical questions, polls, wiki pages, etc. What about something like that... TopNotchThemes User Group? TNT Themes User Group? (although I don't know that "TNT" is very recognizable out of context so it depends on where exactly this phrase is going)

Also, this wouldn't change the short name in the URL, right?</content>
