Anne, a wonderful blog post that really cuts to the chase in terms of what we do and how to get involved. I am going to link to this from our wiki as I am sure it will help teachers take that first step towards being involved.
Thank you!

Hi again Rachel, I have been thinking about your question, and decide I do agree with you. Yes, we have a responsibility to share our knowledge and experience explicitly and digital etiquette is one area, same as social etiquette, where it is useful if not necessary to 'teach' and share commonly accepted practice in order to best promote successful communication and understanding while working in a digital mode.
Thanks for the question and valuable comment to this post!

Excellent set of resources and thanks for sharing. I hope you will be interested in coming over to join our DigiParent Ning at http://digiparent.ning.com/ This is something we want to develop and integrate into the Digiteen idea.

One point, I think you need to move very quickly from 'social networking' over the 'educational networking' and be able to explain the difference to parents (and teachers and students!). The latter is the more professional version and comes with higher expectations of behaviour, language, responsibility and reliability I think.

Hope you will share your final presentation with us! Thanks!

Phil, excellent review of educational collaboration and teachable moments! I totally agree with you and empathize your concerns. Making mistakes is human, being allowed to do this in a controlled educational environment is an opportunity to develop the thing called 'digital citizenship' and to foster a heightened awareness of being a responsible online learner.
Vicki and I have been doing these projects for 2 years now but it always amazes me that students have such power and conviction when they are given a voice. They also can make their own decisions, ones that we approve, when given a chance. It's great to have you and your students in the Digiteen project!

David, well, what can I say except that I enjoyed your erudite reflection very much!
I am also in an IBO school and value the emphasis on inquiry, creation and reflection.
I think you are well on the way to be a great blogger, one post at a time.
Can I make a small suggestion...lengthy posts, no matter what the quality of writing, are difficult to read, therefore I often break the text up with images or different text styles to help the reader keep moving through. I wish I had more time right now to really get into some valuable reflecting, however my blog posts these days tend to be more of a sharing resources and events style. I look forward to reading more of your blog!

Definitely food for thought. The changing media paradigms have implications for how we teach and learn as well.

Hi Todd
I agree with Beth...make your board very visual and don't put up A4 pages of text...well not too many anyway. i have done 2 posters at NECC. I do like to feature student work, either in print or digital, but people do not have time to take in too much. have a good handout (always popular!) and great pictures with key words (use your CAS/IBO words for learner profile etc) and be prepared to say the same thing about 200 times.
See you at NECC!
