<content>From your post and some comments, I see a common misconception that people have of those who RP in game - that it's complete and total RP immersion at all times.

Rarely is that the case especially since game mechanics and whatnot make it difficult to do so.

The majority of RPers will RP with other players but aren't constantly in "RP mode" while questing or running instances/raids. Sure, some people will set up in character party runs.... but we have to turn a bit of a blind eye to mobs and bosses that are killed repeatedly.

Which is also why most RPers focus on more original elements for character development rather than boasting of all their heroic deeds within the game world (at least not COMMON heroic deeds).</content>

<content>First, thankies for the link love. I tried very hard not to write any spoilers about Dragon Age and believe me, it's been tough to keep my mouth shut about it!

I do like to keep games, same way I like to keep movies and books. I have a hard time letting them go because they are kind of like trophies I guess. For me it's more like "yeah, I play(ed) that" or "just in case I wanna do it again" or "someday I'll go back and finish it."

And dammit, now I want to answer the additional questions in your comment, but maybe I should wait for the appropriate post? (Hint: I'm HUGE on sidequesting!) ;P

Also, is it bad that I actually read "alcoholic" as "altoholic?" &amp;gt;.&amp;gt;</content>

<content>@Phil - Trust does seem to be a factor... it really seems to be the underlying cause of all the commotion. Those who lack trust (whether real or perceived) seem to have a major problem with this. Those of us that do have some trust and faith in Blizz are cool with it.

@Elnoriah - Thanks :) It's amazing sometimes how the littlest things can get people so worked up. We all do that at times - just not always so vocally. I'm certainly not immune to it either... I've been known to overreact before (shh!) but I usually feel kinda silly afterwards.</content>

I guess one of the reasons I had no strong feelings regarding it (of course, I went to the link expecting THE WORST from comments I saw) was that first couple lines read (to me) tongue-in-cheek... basically making fun of the notion that girls don't exist on the internet and silly of you to believe so.</content>

OI stands for Order of Illuminatus. The other interesting thing about our guild is that we have multiple chapters across games. Even those who do not play the same game share a sense of community through the guild's forums. Our Horde chapter's guild tag is shortened to .

I had posted a link to your post on our site and am glad to see that some of my guildies have read it. While Noc looks to be the only one to have commented here (so far), there were very positive responses on the forums. It's nice to know there are other guild's like us out there! :D</content>

I did have to teach him how to swim. Ahh those were the days, when he was a wee nooblet. ;P

<content>@Jaedia - Yeah, the rubberbanding is VERY frustrating. Regarding Fable 2, I think it's pretty quick if you stick to just the main story quests, but I spent a lot of time on sidequests as well. That and marrying like 4 people xD I have yet to check out the DLC we got, since Side got it after I'd completed the story.

@Anea - You are not boring! There is nothing wrong with loving one game. I'm just... polygamerous :P The character creation is pretty fun for DA, but I still think the Aion character creation is more fun. I could spend hours creating/tweaking characters! If you do think there's any possibility you might try playing DA later, I think you might enjoy the story of it. I already know that once I finish it, I'll be replaying to see alternate endings.</content>

<content>@Roger - Yeah, Dragon Age is really amazing. I'm really loving the story, although I don't usually play tactical type games. I'm a huge fan of being able to talk to just about everyone and all the extra sidequesting!

@Jaedia - I'm hoping I won't have to hunt too hard for missing quests, but I know as I get closer to the goal they'll be harder to find. I do have several that are leading to Eastern Kingdoms, so I'm glad to hear some of those will count towards Kalimdor.

I haven't had a lot of lag issues in Aion (other than at the beginning) but sometimes we experience some ping spikes. Oddly enough, Sideshow seems to have more issues with that than I do.

I'm loving Sims 3, so if you liked the past Sims games, I think you'll enjoy it. It's really nice not having to play everyone in the neighborhood to keep the ages the same! Brutal Legend (the Jack Black one) looks awesome too. We have it, Side's been playing it but I haven't yet. And Fable 2 - omg I loved that game. I played it pretty exclusively until I finished it. Hopefully Dan didn't spoil the ending for you though! (It was sooo hard for me not to spoil it for Side since I finished it first).

@Miss Medicina - I don't believe there is an Aion trial at this time. My "trial" was open beta, but I hope they offer one soon so people can check it out before committing to purchasing it. Dragon Age has a downloadable demo through Steam, I believe. (That's what Side tells me at least) I would HIGHLY recommend trying it! :)

@Nanuki - It's not always easy balancing multiple games, but I've done it for years. Of course, I do have stretches of playing 1 game exclusively, but I like to bounce around a bit... helps me keep things fresh and interesting. Also helps me from burning completely out on games (particularly WoW).

@Tami - Dragon Age is very captivating, especially right now. I know what you mean about Aion having more staying power (as well as WoW and other games for me) mostly because of my love of a social aspect with gaming. After getting into WoW, it's been hard for me to stay content with single player games for too long because I get to a point where I miss little things like guild chat.

@Sprink - Oh no! You should have asked someone to soulstone you first :P Revisiting/replaying games can be great for breaks too, definitely. I still return to Harvest Moon (in its various forms) here and there. I had actually taken a small break from WoW to return to Sims 2 before Sims 3 came out... had to reinstall and everything. And sometimes I get the desire to reinstall The Movies to putz around with that too!</content>

Our guild is much like yours. Unfortunately, more long term members are seeming to take it personally that people have left us after reaching 80 and running some heroics with us. I wish more of our members would feel less used by those who come and go and share your view (which is quite similar to my view).

And some of those people that have left for raiding guilds? They've either returned after a period of time or have asked to keep/bring alts into our guild because they love the community of it.

And that is most definitely something to be proud of.</content>

<content>Heh, yeah, I often feel like the oddball blogger because I don't raid and don't have much of a desire to do so. I still find plenty of fun in the game and I have better gear than what I need for my day-to-day activities. So, I haven't even run heroics in months... I don't really need the emblems for gear. It's nice to know if I wanted it, I could work towards it that way.

I have yet to get any of the new emblems since the changes were put in. I still have a handful of heroism emblems and .... a whoppin' 4 valor emblems.

Although I'm still probably not quite in the category of the average player, I can understand where most people are coming from regarding their frustrations. The only thing with this is, I've seen people be frustrated from Vanilla through WotLK. Sure, the aim has shifted from "this is way too hard" to "this is way too easy."

I'm not sure, but I think some of those frustrated groups have overlapped... but the frustration level also seems to vary a bit depending on when people started playing (or at least the points they will raise). It's impossible to keep everyone happy all the time, so I just focus on me.

But I can do that because I don't need to be dependent on X number of other players in order to do what I want to do in game.</content>

<content>I'm with you, Keila. I'm in a casual/social guild that sometimes attempts raids (generally through alliances with other guilds or pugging). I've seen 2 wings of Naxx and that's it.

And I'm fine with that.

I tend to enjoy chasing achievements (like Loremaster) more. The times I've raided (and when I had a brief stint in a medium raiding guild back in TBC) I usually found it more frustrating and nervewracking than fun.

(Not to say I *never* enjoyed raiding, just the overall experiences - scheduling, prepping, others not prepared, etc outweigh the fun I'd had)

My playstyle and approach tends to be casual, but I spend a lot of time in games each week. But, I'm also a multi-gamer, so that shifts my style and perspective as well.</content>

<content>After doing the blogroll rehaul: removing/adding links and putting descriptions for them all....

That was pretty much all I could handle for now.

Then again, I have the man behind the curtain (aka Sideshow) for any /major/ changes.

.... aww dammit you changed the title... *sighs and goes to fix blogroll* :P</content>

<content>It's definitely your choice and I don't think anyone who is participating thinks negatively of those that do not choose to. I think it is great that you have 2 organizations that you give to on a regular basis.

I have a few that I try to give to yearly around where I live and daily I work with people that frequently benefit from the giving of others... people who are trying to rebuild their lives.

Personally, I am very much in support of Child's Play because it's an organization I can identify with and have given to previously.

You might be on to something regarding the cultural difference, as I really don't know how charity drives and whatnot look or handled in other countries. I do know that even at work we're constantly seeing information for a wide variety of charitable organizations.

Along those lines, it is sorta nice to see so many gamers unite to do something positive... especially when the the non-gaming public thinks we're all a bunch of basement dwelling no-lifers based on a few news stories. Is that my reason for doing it though? No. But your question reminded me of high school where they constantly urged students to participate in volunteering and such because people perceived us all as being up to no good all the time. :P

Although there are a lot of bloggers and podcasters participating in the drive, I don't think we're trying to come across as knocking on everyone's virtual door asking for donations.

Even with my twitter campaign, that's not asking people to donate themselves (unless they want, of course), but more like a pledge concept - the tweets that blame me for stuff brings up the count of how much *I* am going to donate to the drive. (Similar to pledging money per pins bowled or per mile walked... just I'm not collecting from anyone but myself...well and now 2 other bloggers that offered to "sponsor" the blame tweets as well.)

As for the repetition, it all depends on who you follow, read, and listen to. Not all of our audiences overlap... so some people might feel like every post in their reader is about these events, and others might only see a couple.</content>
