<content>"one element that newspapers still have claim to — locality"

You're right. Locality is a huge deal. I think every newspaper should start it's own free inclusion Yellow Pages, then charge for classified ads from businesses looking to sell an item or service, promote an event, or hire someone.

Now here's what interesting about Facebook that newspapers should learn from. Zuckerberg did not have the new service built in-house. Instead Oodle white labeled it for Facebook.

Newspapers need to start partnering with these small companies and integrate their services into their sites.</content>

<content>"What the game lacks now is diversity."

Can't agree. Let's take the ATL for example. In that one city you have:

D4L and Dem Franchise Boys
Cee-lo and Outkast
T.I. and Young Jeezy
Lil Jon and Ludacris

All them dudes sound the same to you? There's a problem, but diversity ain't it.

What Russell was doing by calling them poets was savvy, and needed. He was attempting to humanize and celebrate hip-hop before Oprah's audience. That's the best way to engage hip-hop and young Black men if you don't want to alienate them.</content>

Take that straw man! :)

No one is asking users to pay twice for music they ripped. However, I do use the subscription service on Yahoo as a way to download music I already on - it's easier than ripping a CD.

I also use the subscription service to listen to music that isn't worth paying for, which is most of it. I relate it to buying movies. where I rent much more than I own.</content>
