<blockquote=br5000@cox.net;3785711>My son "Daniel" 43 years old, died in the Atlanta Pent. 3/15/08. He had been sick with what the prison said was the flu. His health continued in a downward spiral. Inmates and guards tried to get my son help, but was told to "tell the ****** to stay in bed and drink water. My son called me March 10th to tell me if he didn't get medical help he would die, I did not no until later that inmates were holding him up in order for him to make the call. I tried to get him help, but there was absolutely no way to talk to a person, you can not get passed the computers. I was notified March 15th and informed, " with no warning" that Daniel was dead!!!!! I am a widow living alone, the news shocked me so badly, I found out later it was the CHAPLAIN that called me:eek: Daniel was taken to the hospital where he was put in on March 12 and then died March 15th. I got an autopsy report that was very confusing, it sounded like it was on two people instead of one. My son was blonde, this person was said to have had black hair and beard with grey strikes~~ I am hurt, shocked, angry, my son was treaded like a piece of garbage instead of the non violent human that he was. I needed to talk this out and although I am crying my heart out while I type this, I am wanting to make things better for other inmates, I would not want another Mom getting a call in the cold callused way that I did.
Thank you
br5000

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I cannot even begin to imagine your pain.

There is an organization that advocates for the family members of those who lose loved ones while they are incarcerated. From your post, I gleaned information that tells me something is "fishy".

Here is the link to their website. I can't say for sure that they can help you, but it would certainly be worth contacting them to find out.

You're in my prayers. I hope you get the answers you need, and deserve.

<blockquote=ros8008;3765548>I would like to write to Paul Bernardo for several reasons, including for my schooling. I recently read that he is in a cell that is three paces long and an arms length wide, and it evoked sadness in me which I didn't understand. I have always and still cannot comprehend what he has done but yes everyone deserves forgiveness. How can someone be rehabilitated when they are not receiving any programming in jail. He has been there 16 years now, would he not be rehabilitated or close to it if they were providing him with programming, it doesn't make sense. Could someone please help me and explain how to write to him. How do you get his prison number? The address? Any information and can he even get mail? Anything would be appreciated.

I believe he is at Kingston. You would have to contact the facility and ask them if he can receive mail and how to reach him.

<blockquote=MsChiku;3759229>Ok, I need to chime in... PTO is for "supporting" ALL inmates, REGARDLESS of the title of their conviction (murder, rape, drug dealer, robbery, etc... ) The Prison's of Ohio, including CRC, mission is to:"The mission of the Correctional Reception Center is to maintain a secure and humane environment for staff, inmates and to provide for protection for the community...

I love the Bible with all my heart and soul... BUT "an eye for an eye" has NOTHING to do with the rules, law, & safety, requirements behind those prison walls... HUMANITY, is for every single inmate/loved one behind bars.

Please don't be so quick to assume that a conviction of "murder" makes a prisoner less worthy of water or life... The Bible also says, "Judge not, that you not be judged..." All sins are worthy of Forgiveness...not just the ones we tend to justify.

No man or woman has the right to refuse our inmates/loved ones Water, Food, Clothing, & maintaining good Health.

Lastly, tread lightly on the subject of which prisoner is most worthy of humanity... BECAUSE according to the Laws in Ohio, ALL Ohio Inmates are worthy of it.

I completely concur. People always quote the "eye for an eye" as God's way of saying it's ok to kill someone who took someone else's life. The problem is, they don't read the WHOLE chapter and all of the verses. They read the first one, and that's it. If you read all of it, it's the same chapter where Jesus talks and says, "if someone takes your shirt, give them your cloak." and "if someone slaps you on one cheek, Turn the other cheek". Those words might not be exact, but that's exactly what He says.

I understand the poster being upset about all of this. If my loved one were being treated like that you better believe my hair would be up and I would be doing whatever I COULD do to get that situation changed. I would be barraging DRC with letters, I would be informing the local health department because a situation like that is totally unhealthy and worthy of some serious fines, I would imagine. This goes beyond cruel and unusal punishment. I worked in the system in the state of Ohio for 11 years, and I never once heard of anything so disgusting going on...but believe me, I know that time has passed and things have changed. Search the local paper for this particular facility. Research the reporters for that paper and look for the one who does the "human interest" stories and contact them about this situation. Talk to, or better yet see your state representatives about this issue. This is the only way you can even have a chance of making sure this doesn't happen again.

What I find astonishing is that the CO's would want to be subjected to the odor. I mean there would be no mistaking the kind of odor that would come from all of the unflushed toilets. Yet if they didn't incapacitate them as well the guys would have access to water from the tanks. I shudder to think what kind of person could tolerate that just to "punish" some inmates.

The poster is right. The punishment her loved one was handed down by the judge, which is the time he must spend incarcerated, locked up and away from his family and friends, IS his punishment. CO's are not supposed to add to that, unless the inmate does things that makes them have to act by segregating the inmate, etc. But what she's describing here is way beyond going overboard.

It's my hope that these inmates have clean water and facilities back.
