yea, i agree. as always you respond in a very constructive manner. the links are also very well selected but i don't think anything gets through his mental filter. i like discussing evolution but the debate between evolution and creationism gets old fast. and i don't have the time.

i've just started summer classes and am getting really busy, medical terminology, physiology, developmental psychology, and physics. ugh. by the way, if you don't mind, what is your background and what the hell do you do? you know enough to be a real pain in the ass.

all the links that prospero811 provided are really good. just basic biology. i don't expect anything will satisfy you, but check out this site anyway, http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/home.php

your summary of evolution indicates your not grasping the main ideas of evolution. and i'm a lousy educator so ain't going to help much. the features you listed emerged because of genetic variation, processes which include mutation, migration, genetic drift and natural selection. the process of evolution has not stopped. the question of why certain physiological features become dominant should be answered with following link.

http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/article/0_0_0/evo_17

just keep on hitting next. or just explore the whole site, it's very educational. but, i don't think it or anything will convince you of the success of evolution as a scientific theory. it is science, it deals with physical reality, beyond that science can't comment.

now if whatever god you believe in decides to come down and get his blood drawn then scientists can start getting to work. i for one would be really interested in studying god but i do not have anything to test, measure, model, simulate, etc... and so far religion hasn't provided anyone. and science isn't concerned with producing one. so i don't know why your looking for religion in my science, i'm not looking for any science in your religion. i don't really care either way. believe what you want. in fact, or perhaps more appropriately, in faith what in god's creation do you believe?

roadrunmch, i agree, god is incomprehensible. you lost me after that. the whole light bulb thing seems unrelated, but i want to see where your going with this. i cannot create life in a light bulb. so, how many scientist does it take to screw up life in a light bulb?

the mouth breathers comment is lost on me, but your going so deep you must have developed gills by now. keep in mind jesus didn't even bother swimming these waters he just walked on em'.

and hey, my nipple comment... that was a damn good point. answer that one.

the whole something out of nothing does seem paradoxical to me. but these seemingly inexplicable mysteries are common to science, they are the purpose of science. but science unlike religion just doesn't respond by decreeing it a miracle and walking away. science keeps on methodically poking around coming up with better models and more accurate results and in the process producing things like light bulbs. but you originally brought up biological evolution, lets stick to that.

ethnicity is an identification with an ethnic group and exclusion from certain other groups because of the affiliation. now an ethnic group is distinguished by cultural similarities and differences. members of an ethnic group share beliefs, values, habits, customs, and norms, and a common language, religion, history and kinship. culture is a difficult term to define as it describes all that is human. at its most basic culture is the traditions and customs that govern behavior and beliefs. stereotypes are the fixed ideas about what the members of a group are like. so, yes you were stereotyping russian women, and yes you may continue to stereotype russian women and all other women. but as an obnoxious smart ass i was expressing my lack of enthusiasm for stereotyping as it rarely achieves any deep understanding of a person or their culture, ethnicity, etc... however i do question how specific the qualities of self-regard, enigmatic eyes and the sense of being on a different plane are to russian women alone. what the hell does a sense of being on a different plane mean? having traveled a good bit i can say that individual differences exceed the descriptions provided by the stereotypes of various cultures and ethnic groups. i could take 100 women from various cultures and group them together again using different characteristics that would relate them all into another group. and i could then stereotype that group as well. not saying stereotyping is wrong just saying it's just a tired means of generalizing a people to a few simple characteristics that are often found throughout human culture. woo hoo.

well... when i got on at the museum the board wanted to just put shit in glass cases and be done with it. which is in my opinion a funeral for history. nothing would change and after a while everyone would stop coming. i've been to small town museums, i've seen a gun up on a wall and under it is a little brass plate that reads, "gun." my attitude was that the museum had to present history as being vital and relevant. so have a few permanent exhibits that are central to the community; education, industry, faith, etc... then create exhibits that you bring out annually, for special events. then host traveling exhibits which i did last year, from the smithsonian. by hosting these exhibits i reevaluate the permanent exhibits so that they add to the context of the traveling exhibit. the last smithsonian exhibit had to do with food and american culture. now... families. the only people who are members of the historical society are old people who don't even bother showing up and as they die off so does membership. gotta get fresh blood. get kids interested in history, by working with the local school, programs for kids, they drag mom and dad in, mom and dad support the museum. i also design the exhibits to appeal to those institutions that are significant to the area. so oil industry, church, education, they recognize the work i am doing and thus are more likely to contribute resources, hopefully cash money! i could go on but thats about it. second nature actually, applied anthropology, bit manipulative actually, moo ha ha! i've caught myself thinking about ways to help you and your artist friends actually, how's that going?

hey yo thanks for the advice. it'll come in handy. i check your blog once in a while. i threw one up to practice on, since i apparently had an account. pretty tame and straight forward. strange switching roles sometimes, i function in too many disassociated social groups. one of the aims of the museum is to increase family participation. so i'd thought i'd try and experiment on that oprha demographic. here's a link... <a href="http://humanofamilia.blogspot.com/">commonunity</a>

yea, vegans. i expect they would have to contrive some kind of loophole, i mean what are they going to do stop eating? they do see you as cruel, doesn't that just satisfy you in some way though? i've had this argument before. i always ask, "have you seen how a lion takes down a water buffalo? talk about cruel! now i've seen animals butchered. in nicaragua they sacrificed a pig during a celebration. they did this by holding on to his rear legs and slicing it's throat. the pig was dead in like seconds. now as i see it humans can be the most compassionate predators on the planet. i really think there is a deeper compassion for those people/s that hunt, thank the gods that be, and communally consume their catch than any vegan can understand. those that practice such methods are more aware of their humanity and place in the environment than someone who vainly attempts to isolate themselves from the natural world around them are ignorant and arrogant. who in the hell can live a cruel free life?

annuddermale, if you mean; linguists ridicule the language that they as academics are expected to use, then yes they do. when i studied and did student teaching in anthropology at university, i frequently pointed out the irony of teaching the need for cultural relativism in our discipline while wearing professional attire and using formal academic terminology that were not my own casual manner of performing. that type of mockery is quite common in the social sciences.

micheldiego, yea i would say that was a political mistake. this discussion is not, "very american" it is primarily an academic debate, that is uncommon in the social sciences. the history of america is a history of immigration, internal division, class stratification, socioeconomic disparity, segregation, civil war, civil rights, riots... from within your segment of american culture there may not seem to be a lack of cultural heritage or internal division but if you ask another american cultural group you may be surprised by their experiences. by the micheldiego, i am well versed in the writings of the transcendentalists, the beat poets, and music is one of my passions. my subjective opinions and expectations of art as it applies to me is something i try to keep separate from my role as a social scientist. otherwise i am biased and unable to approach cultures with an open mind. check out the following link.
