It's ridiculous that a company these days wouldn't take five seconds to check Google first to see if the name they intend to use already exists. What happens if you do? The real PeopleMaps, which Julie writes about above, is the *first* hit.

I guess if they decided to form a band, they may as well call themselves The Beatles. After all, nobody would have used that name, would they?

Sheesh.

And the contact sync is simply awesome!

Other great upcoming Twestivals include the fine EdTwestival, GTwestival and Inverness Twestival (I still reckon the latter should be named Twinvernestival, though!).

A few tickets are still available for EdTwestival, if you're around Edinburgh and looking for a great night out on Thursday 10 September. Four fine bands for a mere £7! Raffles! Cakes! Fun! You can buy via the website link, which is somewhere near this sentence.

Tickets for the very fine Gtwestival are still available too, or you can donate to the awesome Inverness Twestival, and buy e-raffle tickets on their website, too.

So, if you're Scottish, go ahead - make someone's day :)

The Sony deal seems like the beginning of the end to me, though I really hope I'm wrong.

I've had an eMusic account since 2006 ( I was a founder subscriber), and have been absolutely *enthralled* at some of the more obscure stuff they have available for download that's difficult, if not downright impossible, to find elsewhere.

They ought to leave the major label releases to iTunes and Amazon, where I rarely spend money. If others want to buy "commercial" music, they're there already.

And we should consider going back to look at the continuing musical output of the demoscene, which is where a number of high quality musicians who ended up on eMusic started out. And to folks like yourselves on ReverbNation, of course. And to archive.org. And Jamendo. There remain free, high quality alternatives.

But it's also worth noting that my Amie Street account may be getting used more a little often in the future...

The death of the *original* www.mp3.com website was a very sad day indeed for independent music. It had some superb music, from some very talented people, who mostly disappeared forever as a consequence if the collapse of the site. Why did mp3.com choose to delete thousands of tracks not available elsewhere? The buyers of the site decided to delete tens of thousands of tracks for no logical reason whatsoever. Why?

In comparison, this service just looks daft. It's time to listen to music you *haven't* heard before. Think *fresh*.
