Aussies are good with desserts. Check out lamingtons, pavlovas and Peach Melba. Lamingtons are 2" squares of cake iced in chocolate and rolled in dessicated coconut ... named after the then-governor of Queensland for whom they were first made. Great with morning tea (inherited from the UK).

Pavlovas are well ... what can I say about a 'pav'? A crisp, slightly sweet meringue flan base filled with fresh fruit and topped with cream. Pavs often include kiwi fruit which are in no way an hommage to our friends across the Tasman Sea ... it's another name for Chinese Gooseberries ... native of China. Anna Pavlova was a great Russian ballerina and was made in her honour by a Perth chef during her 1935 visit to Australia.

Peach Melba was created by Auguste Escoffier of London's Savoy Hotel, and named after that truly grand dame of opera and Aussie Dame Nellie Melba. Think of a concoction of peaches with raspberry sauce and ice-cream.

Kind of puts Vegemite (an extract from yeast leavings) in its place, don't you think?

My family always has pav as dessert on Boxing Day (December 26 and a public holiday in Australia). It's the end to a barbecue meal which comprises steak, sausages, lamb chops, onions and a range of salads.

Do we eat this stuff? You bet!

Hi Kevin
thanks for introducing Sketchcast. Your sketch reminded me of Dan Roam's 'The Back of the Napkin: solving problems and selling ideas with pictures.' It's well worth a read on how images assist conceptualisation.

Where have those days gone to eh? Nearly the end. I agree, it's been terrific to meet so many new folks. That's one of the great upsides of these challenges.

I agree there are times when I wonder about the sheer dullness of television programming, but I have to say I disagree that there is nothing worth watching on Australian television right now.

I think our free to airs like the ABC (two channels) + SBS are brilliant with the sheer scope and quality of programs. And without meaning to provide a freebie for paid tv (they take my money so that's enough) there are some gems on cable that would never see the light of day on free to air commercials.

All a matter of taste I reckon. At least I've stopped being guilty about watching tv!

Hi Miss Wyatt's class.

I see you are taking part in the 31 Day Comment Challenge and that you are keen bloggers. Good on you!

I used to teach Grade 6 once upon a time ... waaay back in 1967. I couldn't help thinking as I read your blog of how much fun you must be having using this great tool for learning.

Good luck and keep writing!
