Will try uninstalling Quicktime first, then the tablet drivers.

Great article, and thanks @#174 arlen smith for your sensible commentary .. the only person to mention Dual Pane file management. This is something that Neither windows nor mac have built in natively .. and both should consider.

All the hassle around drag / drop vs copy / paste just dissolves when you use a dual pane file manager (for example Xplorer2 by zabkat.com

Just put two folders next to each other (in a single application window), and you can choose whether to drag, paste .. or even use a single (copy/paste) shortcut eg ctrl+F6. Wildly obvious, once you get the picture.

i'd feel a whole lot better about switching to a mac if i knew there was an equivalent to Xplorer2 .. or if this was built into the Finder.

Most windows users have no idea about the enormous benefits from such an application ..
and this is something they have in common with most apple users.

Knock each other out ;-]

Thanks Sue, brilliant as always.

What about the wordpress plugin known as 'photodropper'? It's not perfect, but it's terrific for beginners. Search from within your wordpress posting page .. automatically links to original picture and adds license detail.

(Does edublogs have this one switched on?)

Hello Sue, i live in a cold house in Melbourne, and my strategy has always involved: a beanie, thermal underwear, one of those zip-up camping vests, and thick thick socks.

If you have a fireplace, chopping wood is one of the best ways to get warm (don't even burn it, just rug up and chop).

Recently i've discovered the delights of not having a computer at home. Great way to stay cold is sit at the screen all day and all night.

Alternative: lots of brisk walking, yoga or dance class, plenty of outdoor air; early nights, thick soups and lots of sleep before midnight. Physical activity = warmth.

Plus, have a spare towel over the heater while you shower. Gotta keep your towels dry and warm :)

(In Canada they use that amazing Cling Wrap stuff over the windows, to seal in the air. But in Canada they have Real Cold.)

best of luck, michael

Thanks for your post Sue, and your disclosures. i do think Stephen made a good point initially, but i also agree with you .. that if you're giving away the computer, it's not payment for you.

Thanks Sue for your strong opinions ;-]

i have a personal blog with google/blogger, and recently i've turned on the comment moderation, because all i'm getting in the way of comments is ads from registered google users (spam really, but individually keyed in).

(You can allow anonymous comments under the blogger umbrella, i'm sure .. and haven't they just upgraded to allow OpenID as well?)

With my work-related blog, i use wordpress, so the spam protection is much stronger. Still i've never had enough comments to need moderation. And i'm such a half-hearted blogger anyway.

i agree with Diane about the RSS feed for comments .. you can delete pseudo-spam that gets through .. but it remains in the feed.

Very thought-provoking post, the issues have plenty of grey shades. (and yes, i am planning to switch to wordpress, and halve the number of neglected blogs.)

thanks, michael
