        <content>G'day Miss W,
My students are really enjoying the competition!
Some are still waiting to be registered, but I have already asked for a higher speed in my computer, as a help to cope with all the tasks in time!
They keep comunicating through messenger to be sure about their spelling, because I had told them that, if they would make faults, the automate translator wouldn't recognize the words to translate.
Others just love to practice their English and sometimes come to check their sentence building.
And for many of them, they say it's getting hard for them to leave the computer when their parents call them, because they are eager to visit their new English speaking "buddies"!
But so far parents are happy about the safety precautions and the other essential features of the Competition.
As for the "About" page, I must wait that they calm down to collaborate with me and comment the post where I asked them to help building this page.
The alterations in your class blog surely are a great improuvement for simpler access and better communication.
Everyday, in class, I have the joy of hearing from You!
Ines
Note: See this stubc08? Strangely, my keyboard, or my pc, has exactly the same figure for 0 - as zero and for o - as the letter "O". But when I write the same words in cocomment's label, the Zero recovers its own form.
Perhaps I must buy a better keyboard... : )</content>

        <content>Hi @Sue, @Dean, @Grace, @Nathan,
     Very interesting and useful conversation.

A - I'm trying to accept Miss W. invitation to write an About page for my class blog, and I asked my students to help me by answering these questions:

1. Which are the main purposes for the creation of this class blog?
2. Which work projects would you like to develop here?

3. How are you thinking to use our class blog as a collaboration platform?

4. How do you hope to fulfill the opening to the world that our class blog allows?

B - Concerning work projects, my suggestions were:
a - To publish students texts on a regular basis.
I don't know if I must write a Category for each student or if it is enough to tag their writtings with their names. I would appreciate some advice here, for my students already feel that their posts are getting "lost" or hard to find.

b - As Miss W. suggested, to build a Blogging Glossary - bilingual, I guess, for most blogging related words didn't found a proper translation yet, and european Portuguese tend to keep anglicisms any way.

c - To create special pages on specific "web" topics, like Being Internet Savy, Web Citizenship, Digital Literacy...

d - As my students are very young, I would like to find a way to get parents envolved in this project too, somehow...

C - I only stay 2 years with my students: 5th and 6th grades; I think the About page should be altered regularly in the sense that, apart from some essential features, each new generation should be enabled to rebuild the blog project, leaving in it the "printing" of their difference.</content>

        <content>Hi, from Portugal!
I live by the sea, at Cascais, near Lisbon, in a small touristic village where we enjoy mild winter and dry and hot summer. Unfortunately, both drought and fires have devastated our forests, thus we are loosing our green landscape. Portuguese people loves to look towards the ocean and wonder about what could be in the distance, beyond the horizon.
My father used to tell us "Las Vegas tales" as he travelled several times to this amazing town while working as a textile engineer.
@john, hi, I've been in Glasgow a few times and I never saw such a beautiful countryside anywhere else; I 'll never forget having sailed in the last steam boat crossing a lake and visiting the small town of Danoon.

        <content>Sue,
I also never dreamed that students could eventually have to pay for Internet access. It really sounds strange; there should be a law against it
The bigger challenge I'm facing right now is that our new wireless internet connection at School doesn't reach our floor yet, thus I have to bring my own mobile connection - and sometimes it fails...:(
The biggest barrier is my personal fight against time: sometimes I have 5 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes, between classes, and I can't cope with several tasks in so little time: to close and unplug the laptop, the connect box and the projector, while asking the students to leave the room, then close the door, give the key to someone in charge, then going upstairs to change the "summary book" and take another book for the next lesson, then return downstairs, enter in another classroom and plug in the laptop, the projector, the connect box, open the site I need, greet the students and keep them quiet to start the lesson.
Thus, sometimes, I just take a piece of chalk and have some rest...:(</content>

I'm sorry, but I'm having the same issue than @Mizzb and @Maybellesmom.
As student blogging competition is about to start, I'm trying to add my students as authors to our class blog, at http://inpi.edublogs.org
I'm doing it using my gmail adress plus + the student's name@gmail.com. I'm adding these emails where it is written: Add Users.
But I keep receiving the message that these emails don't exist!
(Sue, my computer has been reset, I don't remember how to enable a spelling corrector in my blog: could you also help me with this?)
Thank you!

        <content>Hi Sue!
I really love Clustr Maps, and I'm glad my kids will be able to keep them. I also appreciate Feedjit maps and Flag counters: anything that helps young students to keep in mind that our blogs are open windows to the world and that every visitor is a world neighbour.
I'm thankful to @Bryan McDonald for the suggestion to use Google Calender as an agenda.
I would like to know all the widgets allowed to under 13 years students and I hope that developers can create new widgets specially designed for these kids (and even forbidden to elder ones!) :)
We will soon be at http://inpi.edublogs.org

I've been away, with troubles with my computer and new internet connection. :(
Now, this is my concern about clustr maps:
as I had misunderstood about this widget and thought my under 13 years students couldn't have it in their blogs, I "cut it off " from their widgets section.
Now they are back, but I can't find the "Add" button that would enable me to embed them again.

        <content>Hi Miss W.
Thank you for remembering me about the Competition. We started classes on Wednesday, but up till now we had just one day of classes "for real"(our icebreaking process includes going away in all day excursions and an opening ceremony)so I had just one 90 minutes lesson - the others are just 45, too short - :).
My 6C class has been introduced to your blog and to "ejourney with technokids". One of my students wrote a comment in another student's blog and put the tag stubc08 so all the class learned how they must do it.
As I have changed my internet connection and it has failed for a few days, I'm late with my school work as well; my operating system has been reset and I don't even have a spelling corrector yet, so please forgive me if I make faults.
I'm still in the processo of registering my students names in our class blog, but I strongly hope that all along next week they will begin to register in your blog for the competition.

I would rather not having to admit that, but just in case you keep wondering about this issue...well, it was just that silly reason.
I keep translating the Tutorials for Wikie Educator, but I don't know where to learn how to create templates; when I translate them, they just turn into simple words. I know I can get help from the site itself, I just wish that you know why I'm busy now, but I keep in touch with the posts about the Students Blogging Competition.

These are very useful tips. I'm saving money to get an i-phone or other kind of device that enables me to work and communicate when I'm outdoors.
To be back home in the evening doesn't leave me time enough to go beyond the priorities.
Now I must say I'm very happy with my Toshiba and the little Asus Eee pc; I'm adapting to both of them and enjoying an offer of free mobile broadband for a whole month; but from September, it will cost 3 Euros per day, so I'll be back to my ADSL.

        <content>Hi Sue,
I have already translated your post with the questionnaire, from the 1st August, as well as the post of Sue Waters. I explained to my students that they should go to the original posts to fill in the questionnaire and to leave comments.
I would also love to translate this post from the 22nd August, as well as all the other posts you will be writing during the competition.

If you would like to check, I've started the blog in Portuguese: http://inpi.edublogs.org
If I feel in trouble to translate any expression I can always ask Carla Arena and a great friend and colleague that is teacher of English in my School. For the moment, I'm not so sure if the words "blogging" and "to blog" may even be translated; I think we use them as they are, we call those "imported" English words "Anglicisms".

        <content>Hi Sue,
I'm looking forward to participation in this Competition. Miss W has written to me, explaining every detail, and I've already answered her.
I'm thinking to start a class blog to gather students with no blog of their own and to set up the new school year contents and activities for my lessons of Portuguese. What do you think?
This blog would be written mainly in Portuguese, except for the networked activities that will put my students in touch with English speaking students, as it will be the case for this Students Blogging Competition.
I'd love to hear your advice on this, thank you.

        <content>Hi Britt,
I understand you can't have all your 25 "students" starting blogs during your 15 weeks course; and I surely agree that authentic blogging must be a free activity.
Than, as Sue says, these young teachers need to use this powerful tool for their own learning.
So, I wonder if it would be possible to have those "students" starting just one or a very small number of blogs, where they would write posts and comment each other posts, during 10 of these 15 weeks, as an exercise, being part of the course, about subjects related to the course, in order to get minimally acquainted with blogging and commenting.
I would like to add that after our Challenge, I will continue to visit and read your great posts.
