Kay said: “But I do think Hillary with her 18M votes would hve helped Obama — more.”This notion that Hillary’s 18M votes in the primary will not be added to Obama’s column in the general is absurd and illogical. This is the illogical conclusion that has been arrived upon: Biden had almost no votes while Hillary had 18M; therefore, if Biden is VP then he will garner no votes for Obama. Really? This has turned into a sour grapes festival. Clinton supporters (and right-wing detractors) weren’t satisfied in the primary, and they didn’t get to see her as VP either. So, there were losers on both sides: Hillary supporters, and the right-wingers who don’t have somebody to make fun of for the next 4-8 years. But, the Democratic party has won with the Obama-Biden ticket.Hillary’s 18M votes is a right-wing talking point. Let’s leave it on the floor where it belongs.

I’m neither a liberal or progressive. I’m an old fashioned moderate. I couldn’t begin to name the times I’ve voted for a candidate despite the party platform. This election will be the first time I’ve voted a “straight ticket”. Federal, state and local, I will vote Dem or leave blank. And it would take completely immoral idiots from both parties to make me leave it blank.I haven’t “moved left”. I merely recognize the fact that our federal government has been seized by a gang of criminals and the Dems are the only tool available to try and stop the rot.Do I wish that there were a way to reclaim our government with third parties and outsiders? Of course. But, this is a brute force struggle and the little fish, for the foreseeable future, will need to be content to follow the school. The way I see it, the only way to answer our national emergencies is to give a Democratic President a “super-majority” and a mandate to act, even if the actions are not ideal. There is really only one issue in this election. Accountability. The GOP, for whatever reasons, has placed the party’s elite above the country, the Constitution, and the Law. And, for that reason alone, I would be delighted to vote for every half-way respectable Democrat in the country. That’s how I’ve decided to view the upcoming election. I don’t expect fundamental changes in how our government is designed. I merely expect our next generation of elected officials to respect the fact that THEY are accountable to US!

Biden is a great pick to be Obama’s running mate.Since Sen. Biden has been a public servant since 1972, and was in office during the impeachment proceedings against the criminal Richard Nixon, there is a much better chance with Biden as vice president, that starting early next year, an Obama presidency might actually conduct comprehensive investigations into all the criminal acts committed by the outgoing criminal Bush/Cheney administration, delving deeply into all that the criminal Bush/Cheney administration has tried to keep hidden from American citizens and the world. The thing to remember is that a John McCain presidency will just mean more of the same in the conservative-controlled executive branch, with many of the criminal conservatives put in place by the criminals Bush and Cheney remaining in their positions…while an Obama/Biden administration will mean a complete changing of the guard in the executive branch and throughout our federal agencies. Can you imagine actually having someone heading one of our federal agencies who represents “We The People” and the rule of law, who will actually tell the truth, and order all federal employees under them to tell the truth to “We The People”???This is what is at stake…along with the very survival of our liberal democracy. The criminal, fascist activities of the Bush/Cheney administration have not only been an embarrassment for the tradition Republican Party (although not the party of Nixon branch), but has been a disaster for our democracy. An Obama/Biden administration is needed to reverse and undo the damage done to our society and the world by the Fascist Republicans. But we first have to find out how extensive the damage done really is. This will require a thorough investigation of all the Fascist Republicans slithering out of office in January 2009. A damage assessment must be made. And with Joe Biden as vice president, I believe that this will happen, even over the objections of the DINO advisers to Barack Obama, who seem to be advising the opposite.

spencers mom said:Face it, the GOP has gone so far right that today’s moderate Democrats are what used to be considered moderate Republicans. That, in a nutshell, is the problem with moderates and centrists (understand I’m not saying thay you do or don’t fit in here). Their entire outlook is based not on reasoned positions and values but rather on where the perceived center of the political continuim is. So, the further to the right Republicans go, so go the moderates. In fact, standing up for the constitution and the rule of law is now considered radical. This is my problem with Obama, trying to play the middle is a fool’s game and probably has much to do with his vanishing lead in the polls despite the fact that in general, people are fed up and disgusted with the Republicans. This race that is now in a dead heat should have been a walk over for the Democrats.I’m not suggesting that Obama shouldn’t get our support, as I’ve said before, defeating McCain is paramount but if we continue to look for the moderate Democrats to save this country we’re going to be severely disappointed.http://progressiveworldreview.com

Sen. Joe Biden on Authorizing War on IraqJoe Biden in His Own Words, Oct. 10-11, 2002“The point about whether or not there needs to be an imminent threat to justify the President taking action is what is at stake. I am of the school that suggests the President need not, if the underlying amendment passes, have to show there is an imminent threat. He is enforcing a peace agreement in effect. He is enforcing, not preempting. And he is not responding to imminent threat.”“What we have here, I argue, as the rationale for going after Saddam, is that he signed a cease-fire agreement. The condition for his continuing in power was the elimination of his weapons of mass destruction, and the permission to have inspectors in to make sure he had eliminated them. He expelled those inspectors. So he violated the cease-fire; ergo, we have authority–not under a doctrine of preemption. This will not be a preemptive strike, if we go with the rest of the world. It will be an enforcement strike.”“The reason I oppose the amendment of my friend from Michigan (Levin) is because the basic premise upon which I began is consistent with where my friend from Connecticut (Lieberman) began, and that is the threat need not be imminent for us to take action. That is because we would be enforcing Security Council resolutions. That is authority we are about to delegate to the President.”“The bottom line was, the Senator from Arizona (McCain) and I felt strongly we had to go. We had to move. Were the Serbs an imminent threat to the United States of America? No. Was it a threat to our security interests? Yes. The stabilization of southeastern Europe. And so I think part of the thing that confuses people here–anyone listening to the debate, myself included, as part of the debate–is this notion of the place from which you began.”On Sen. Robert C. Byrd’s Opposition to Delegating Authority to Bush“The part on which I do empathize with my friend from West Virginia is this is not a very clearly written piece of work. That is why I think Senator Lugar and myself and others had a better way of doing this. But it does incorporate with the President’s words the notion that we are operating relative to weapons of mass destruction and U.S. security interests and enforcement–not preemption.”I am opposed to the Byrd amendment, but I hope we don’t establish some totally new doctrine in our opposition to it.

Alejandro,I thank you for the link. The “On the issues” website is very informative…and is now included in my “Favorites” file under Reference. I do think your Litany was a bit selective. One Main reason that Sen. Obama is a candidate for President, while Sen. Biden is his pick for vice President…is the same reason that Only JFK was elected president from the Senate in recent history…Namely a short Senate Career with a Short Voting record.Sen. Biden is the Fourth longest serving Senator, His votes go back to 1972.So let me ammend my comments. Joe Biden is a Senator, not a Saint. Sen. Biden Inherited MANY DECENT VALUES from his Father. And I still don’t Understand JimAK’s subtle point..about Race and Inheritance.

I’ll try to have it both ways here. First, I’ll apologize to Kay that I became too defensive. What I don’t want to do is participate in making anyone feel unwelcome. Second, I won’t turn back the concerns of Fred and others that he may have been too condescending. But you know what, if we were too afraid to lock horns with eachother to make sure all of our concerns were vetted, we’d be redstateTP.org, having our talking points fed to us and unleashing all-out praise or uniform disagreement only, in fear of being banned. And Witch, I hold you in highest regards here at TP.

http://www.ontheissues.org/Joe_Biden.htmBiden Law of 1994 created several new capital offenses.
Voted YES on Strengthening of the trade embargo against Cuba.
Would consider a Republican for head of DHS or Pentagon.
Universal national service, in military or Peace Corps. (draft)
Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act.
Voted NO on cutting nuclear weapons below START levels.
Voted YES on deploying National Missile Defense ASAP.
Missile defense is perfect metaphor for neo-isolationism. (wait, what?)
Insulted Indian-Americans in attempt to compliment vibrancy.
Apologized for saying Barack Obama was clean and articulate.
Embellishment forced withdrawal from 1988 presidential race.
Knocked out of 1988 race due to plagiarizing a speech.
Voted NO on Social Security Lockbox & limiting national debt.
Leaving Iraq will cause generation-long regional war.
It’s already US policy to go into Pakistan to get al Qaeda.
Voted for Iraq War resolution to avoid war in Iraq. (Huh?)
1995: pushed Clinton to bomb Serbia to free Kosovo.
We can’t just pull out.
Never de-fund war in Iraq.
Fund the war till 67 anti-war votes reached.
There will be a residual force left in Iraq.
In 2002 Saddam posed a threat of purchasing a nuclear bomb.
Partitioning Iraq is inevitable, as shown by history.
Decentralize Iraqi government; local control over daily life.
Biden-Gelb plan: UN & Muslim powers to enforce Iraq unity. (wait, what?)
Voted for Iraq war in 2002, but now a war critic.Biden: If you don’t like his values, he has others.

Rarely is it mentioned Obama’s saint like quality. 25, – 30 years ago, after his education, instead of searching for gainful employment, he did work for the poor in Chicago. The man followed his good heart…the basic core of his personality and an extremely rare quality I believe will be with him for life.
As Obama is for We the People and with a history of teaching constitutional law, he is the man to turn things around.
As it has been explained to me, candidates have to move to the center to win. Some shy away from Obama because they feel he is not experienced enough, he is black, they do not trust him or what ever… Biden strengthens these areas and reinforces Obama’s good and pure qualities. After all, it took Biden 5 years to remarry after the death of his child and first wife.My man Kucinich did not get the nomination and I got over it. I would have to be out of my mind to vote for McCain out of spite… someone the opposite of what I believe in.

First off, Obama/Biden are going to win by a landslide. I am willing to bite my tongue and be a realist and know this is the best we are going to get come January 9th, 2009. But, what worries me is Obama’s creeping military talk about the “good war”. Why isn’t anyone connecting the dots between the Military Economy that we are living under at the expense of the Tanking Civilian Economy? Is Obama going to want to roll back the ‘unitary’ executive privileges that Bush has allowed his Admin to run wild with?
Is Obama going to re-investigate 9/11 and ultimately prove that Bush’s war on terror is a complete fraud on the American taxpayer? Is Obama going to continue to the same reckless foreign policy? (The Good War in Afghanistan) Is Obama going to continue Bush’s unprecedented signing statements? Is the Obama Admin going to pursue legal charges against the Bush Admin?

Spencers mom,I’m from the school that you vote for who you would most want in office. While I understand your point, I don’t want to wait to change the political landscape. I don’t know who I am voting for yet as I tend to wait till all the cards are on the table before I make a choice (VP picks, who’s all going to be there in my locale).I don’t hate McCain, Barr or Obama. If I had to vote last week it wouldn’t have been Obama, but I have alot of respect for Biden soooo, the cards are still in the air. However when it comes down to it, my vote will go for the ticket that works best for me as opposed to “Not so and so”.

I have your email address at work, and was just about to fire you off an ‘RU OK?’ mail.On topic, Biden makes all the sense in the world, as a complement to Obama. He’s also a tiger who won’t have any problem tearing up McIIIrd’s lack of, well, just about everything presidential…
Now if the 21% Clinton supporters still want McIIIrd, then they can just suck it up or live with the disaster their spite would cause if Obama loses. But he isn’t going to lose. So their chances of getting their nominee into the White House are between zilch and nil.

I’m just trying to point out that this election, given the current state of our democracy and the limitations that the majority 2-party system that are today’s political reality, we need to join together and vote for Obama, not Nader et al.I’m here in Pennsylvania, in Bucks County (Patrick Murphy country, Philly burbs) and we just went majority Dem for the first time in history.
Back at ya Jane, Thank’s, lower back is so bad can’t sit or stand for long and the med’s aren’t working….Damn…Thank you and Wayne for your concern…BlessingsDixie, you missed the entire point in my complaint which worked BTW…Who I vote for is my business and for my reason’s, the constitution……Like it or not, troll me if you so choose but never forget I am a bleeding heart liberal and I just stopped a G.D. new’s blitz for Mcnut’s…..Think the Nader note may have been the clincher.. So in short or long, get off my case, you all are starting to sound like the bush bunch with their crap “Your either with us or against us.”….P.B.& J
