It would be helpful if Marina had a list of words that you consider should be restricted to adults. Your idea of what words are “classless” and another person’s idea might not be the same. For example, should the word “fornicate” be included on your list? How about “vagina” or “”penis”? Isn’t it about how a person uses vocabulary, and how often they use those words? And aren’t there different reasons to use those words? Plus, why do we condemn the Germanic rooted words and favor the longer French terms? There’s a sort of magic that we assign to certain terms due to taboo isn’t there? It makes sense for a philologist to explore that aspect of words, doesn’t it? If you watch TV like I do, you’re experiencing commercials, , that deal with erectile disfunction (if after taking our pill, you experience an erection lasting more than 4 hours, consult a physician), and other unsavory things. Off topic – why is the mute button so hard to find on remote controls?

I don’t think you need to cheapen yourself to do this. You have been sexy while retaining class. To do this only plays into your critics. Just because others do it, doesn’t make a strong case for you to begin. Your account may end up restricted to adults only, and then you lose your accessibility. Kids don’t need to hear it, and you don’t need it. Marina, I really hope you take my comments to heart. You are a great, creative person. If you want to take on controversial words, maybe you could consider a different method.

hi mike,i see your point. maybe you’re right about the troll stuff, i don’t know, i’m usually not too good at predicting people’s behaviors. i don’t even remember — did we get some result on the voting thing? i don’t think it will cheapen her. it’s not like the focus is all on swear words, you know. it’s not like “m. explains swear words and a couple of other ones”. i mean, she’s done that before on this radio show. it didn’t cheapen anyone or anything, right? well, i think you know my opinion on this. swear words are just like any other words. they’re just there, you know, in the language. so they should be available for the discussion of their origins as well. i see your concern but i think you worry too much about this. maybe you’re giving it too much thought?

Marina, that was a very interesting and enlightening article. I highly urge you to do a series of videos on the origin of what some people call vulgar words, other people call swear words and other people call slang words. Perhaps you can even touch on the meaning of those three words.Regarding your statement above; In the context of education in general and etymology specifically, your videos should never be allowed to be censored. Now, your videos might get flagged, and I would predict that it is more of a personal attack based on jealousy than anything else and your videos will end up getting un-flagged. Take this YouTube video on the The ‘F’ Word.. It has been up on YouTube since Oct 2006 and I don’t ever recall that this video was ever censored or flagged. OK, here are some nuggets of wisdom. 1. For those people who are concerned that if Marina does videos on the origins of vulgar words that it may tarnish Marina’s image fail to see the nature of this site. I highly recommend clicking on the ALL WORDS links above and watching everyone of Marina’s almost 500 videos in date order to see what Marina is all about.2. Discussing the origin of words does not condone the use of those words, which is a personal choice. Just because Marina does the origin of the word Heroin, does not mean that you should try it. 3. Last year, Marina posted a question and voting poll which asked if it was OK for her to use vulgar words in the context of a lesson. The majority of people voted that it was OK to use vulgar words in the context of a lesson, as this is what HotForWords is all about. 4. For those of you who consistently go around projecting your values on others, and specifically on Marina’s; Kindly, Go Fuck your self. Your attempt at controlling others is a clue that you have no control over your world and by projecting your values on others also shows lack of respect, which I presume is a four letter word for some. Marina, I think it’s the links. If any of them are on the list of known spammers IPs, then it kills the whole post. Also like PK said the number of links also might have a factor. If you look at the code of your plug in. You should be able to see what the parameters are that causes a comment to be kicked to spam. You have full control of that plug.

hey rijk,something’s fracked with my directx 10. i’ve been fighting with it since yesterday evening. grrrr. i went to the microsoft download center to look for an updated driver.. but something’s changed and i can’t find what i need. one of the downloads placed like fifty zipped files in the d/l folder.. and i was like, wtf? :/ i’m completely single-minded when i’m having computer issues, too. i just want it fixed.. NOW! lol.sounds like you’ve missed the best of . the first half or so of the film is my fave. samuel l. jackson, john travolta and uma thurman have amazing characters.lol! spending more than a day in the shower, we’d be wrinkled and shriveled up like raisins, but squeaky clean. : ) probably cold, too, since the hot water would run out. lol! brrrrr. finally got my landlord to turn up the heat on the water heater here. nearly two weeks of lukewarm showers.. i was not happy. plus, him having the trees cut down.. it looks like post-nuclear wasteland (or almost!). lol. dammit. i don’t own the place, so i have any right to say anything about the trees. but my desire to live here has gone way down. Damiana, I answered Rijk over here regarding the question of spam. I only list a few known items that can cause your comment to be flagged as spam. I can tell you from personal experience that when I post a comment on my own blog as a non-logged in user, all of my comments are flagged as spam and I can only guess that it is either related to my domain or it is related to the username being on a list (black list) from other postings elsewhere. I would have to research the spam filter’s rules to see what’s going on. In your case, if you created another username such as Damiana1 for example, and if your comments were still being flagged, it would indicate a blacklisting of your domain or cookies. Clear your cookies and see what happens. Of course you will lose your personalizations and you would have to key your username and passwords back in again.As background information, here is the Wordpress information on the spam filter called Akismet. http://codex.wordpress.org/Combating_Comment_Spam

. like that you pointed out that if you cover the light areas of the painting there isn’t much going on in the dark areas.any idea the period or year that the painting depicting amsterdam as wealthy with many houses and canals being built? there’s not a lot of action going on, but i like this one.like the newlywed couple by frans hals. their clothing with lace collar and lace cuffs. the ivy trailing on the ground and the tree and foliage framing them, the fountain and other people in the background. i’d maybe have to see it in person to really appreciate it being sharp.cover the faces and see what happens to the clouting i tried this with the rembrandt, but i’m not sure what i’m supposed to see. feel like i’ve failed. :/ the man’s hand on her breast seems like a gesture of love, devotion and protection and not as a symbol of sex. was there any other information given about this one? seems almost sure that they were husband and wife or lovers.here is a painting made in the same period. everything is sharp. this painting made me think of the word buccaneers, which means pirate or ruthless speculator or adventurer. they’re holding weapons, which fits that, but they’re also dressed very elaborately. the attention to detail is astounding. de nachtwacht.. some instinct told me it was translated as night watch. i recognize de as the and nacht as night in both german and dutch. i’ve seen this painting before (or pics of it). i like that he painted his wife in.. he must have been missing her. but then i kind of wanted the man in the light and wearing gold to be him.. like he painted himself and his wife similarily clothed (in color anyway) and both in the light. i was kind of disappointed that he is placed towards the back and not well-lit. maybe not my fave rembrandt.thank you for such a detailed tour of your museum expedition. you’re amazing. : )did you see an Johannes Vermeer paintings? maybe the girl with the pearl earring? like that one.. her expression draws you in.you liked the music from last night.. or most of it! sweet. not sure i can replicate that success two nights in a row. thinkingthinking.. deadeye dick new age girl the killers mr. brightside 7 seconds 99 red balloons love this nena cover of 99 luftballoons.. and i really like the band’s laughter at the end : ) self paint by numbersi spent most of the day working in photoshop on a freelance job. eyes crossing.. i’m waxed! -_- zzzzzzzzzzz lol!glad you liked last night’s hugs and kisses. : )hugs and kisses! hey rijk,i thought sinterklaas might have been the origin of santa claus. oh, and i forgot to say that i liked the sinterklaas bloopers vid that you included yesterday.. but poor sinterklaas needs to learn how to ride a horse. oh, and a motorcycle! lol! so, kids don’t believe in sinterklaas in holland? or is it that they know he’s a legend? words are failing me here.. not even sure how i wanted to express that. i should have included pics of the traditional christmas meal so that you didn’t have to google.. sorry. Oohere it’s santa claus, his elves and reindeer. they live at the north pole where the elves make toys for the good boys and girls. and santa claus packs all the toys into a sleigh which he rides in as the reindeer fly them around the world delivering the gifts on christmas eve. love that dutch children leave their shoe at the door with a note and a carrot for the horse. so cute. de zak van sinterklaas! totally can read that and understand what it says. cool. imagining you as a small child sticking your hand up the chimney flue to make sure it was open. cute visual. : )oh, i thought it might be that you didn’t want a pic of me showering for everyone to see. i’m not an exhibitionist, so i wouldn’t have posted a pic like that anyway. Hey Dami,The story sounds pretty much alike, but it isn’t that strange sinterklaas was the blueprint for Santa-claus. food not really a part of the sinterklaas evening. had to google some of the food.Yes it is the evening on which children receive gifts, but they don’t believe in Santa-claus. a few weeks before 5 december sinterklaas arives in holland, he lives in spain. his horse is called americo. and he has black helpers “zwarte pieten” the story divers where they got the color, the one i stick to is because the go threw the chimney to deliver the presents. (6 december is his birthday). During these weeks the children sing sinterklaas- songs for the chimney ore the central heating-unit. The get to put there shoe in front of it and leave a note and a carrot for the horse (your milk and cookies).when we were little my mother told me that i used to stick my hand in the chimney to make sure the lid or valve (you got to help me on this one) was open, so the “zwarte piet” could get in.on 5 december evening there is hard knocking at the door and a bag with presents is left in front of it. with older children / adults it changes. fat bottom girls.. how do they make the world go ’round? you got to be kidding its in the lyrics. one go go gadget queen songs know you are, of course your not one-dimensional! , i was just kidding. : )no not the chest, when i grew up i played soccer and the areas that where exposed to the cold grew furry (as you call it). hey rijk,what song? lol! so it hasn’t been vexing you? my co-worker seems to have forgotten it cause he hasn’t sung it in something like two weeks.. before that it was at least once a week. :/i like christmas better sinterklaas evening is 5 december so sinterklaas evening is when the children receive gifts and christmas is separate? here it’s christmas eve and christmas day that are special. kids put out milk and cookies for santa claus on christmas eve in hopes that santa will leave gifts under the christmas tree to be discovered christmas morning. and it’s traditional to have a large christmas dinner with turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. eggnog and fruitcake are also traditional, but fruitcake is made fun of by most all.queen’s is just a little too symphonic for me. my fave queen song is bohemian rhapsody. i never understood fat bottom girls.. how do they make the world go ’round? lol.nice tune: surrender and interesting set to anime visuals. but, this is going to disappoint you.. i can’t be de-rocked. it’s who i am all the way down to the depths of my soul. i like other genres: blues, celtic, some classical (especially if it’s cello), some reggae (can’t deny marley), so i’m not one-dimensional. but i’m a rocker. w00t! *o/*Dami are you still there, or… or have you gone.
