The only true method to keep Google away is to live in a gated community or in a warzone. I was actually looking forward to possibly seeing myself or at least my car, parked outside my house, on Google Maps street view, but no such luck, since this subdivision has a fake-ass gate at the entrance. As pretend as the security is (opens automatically when anyone pulls up to it) it kept Google from entering. ..and Dan Fowler (in the comments) is very right. Stop being technology haters because you're afraid we'll see you dancing in the nude or something.. CLOSE THE CURTAINS. Google doesn't care about you and neither do we.. I just want to be able to recognize an area, without having physically been there before.. virtual scouting in this manner has probably already saved some people gas / frustration, when trying to find some place they've never been. Sense of adventure is less fun when you're running late.. Thanks Google Maps!

The funny thing is I seriously don't think these people even know what the service is or does. Britain has a serious problem of people jumping on media driven bandwagons. The news makes a hoo-har about privacy and because these rich ponces have little better to do with their lives assume that Google are invading their privacy "because the news said so". It makes me sad to live in the same country.

I agree. People may not be happy about it but the truth is, Google are not breaking any laws (well, unless they photograph a current or former police officer or member of the armed services in a manner potentially helpful to terrorists, that is). Privacy is important, but this isn't the privacy violation people should be worried about, especially not in the UK.

I understand that people want to protect their privacy but Google isn’t doing anything that harms other people. Technically our homes are public property and anyone can pass by and see your house. I don’t see why this is such a big deal.

So when does the scale become to large? Also, it is easy to look at someone's boat in a harbor or car on the street by using google maps so how close is too close. This is just the front of someone's house. All they have to do is close there blinds for 10 seconds when he drives by. Besides, what is true in one instance must be true for all instances. I believe the premise of this argument is faulty by attacking the scale of the photos taken.

Alternate title: bunch of rich idiots break the law to keep Google car doing something legal. Its worth noting that the story about why they stopped the Street View car is shifting. At first they said they were concerned about burglary. Now they claim that its because they're afraid people can look in their windows. Look, I'm all for privacy, and heaven knows we in the UK need more of it, but people are really focusing on the wrong thing here. Don't worry about publicly available information being made publicly available! Worry about the scads of databases -- 10 of which are actually illegal under EU law -- the government is compiling on you.

Totally agree with Karl Roche. Nobody seems to get outraged about the thousands of *LIVE* cameras in London, which are CONTROLLED BY THE GOVERNMENT. Yet if a company like Google (which has a far less abusive track record than any government, so far) wants to take static photographs of a place, WHOA. That's going too far!

I just started using Disqus and love it. I really like the fact that you control your own comments and can go and edit them later (I'm a shocker for typos). The ability for people to reply to other peoples comments is also very useful and it helps create sub conversations between readers. What a great idea. I see Google Wave is working towards a similar type of application. Interesting times ahead.

The feature is of course very new, and there’s much more that could be done with this novel concept: replying to 3rd party comments on Mashable and having your reply posted back to the 3rd party site, for instance. We’re also still working on adding your Twitter avatars. It’s by no means perfect yet: there are lots of tweaks mocospace.com we’re still working on, and I’m sure you can name many more features you’d like to see.
